foggy11
So there i was, nice and contented, after having done a fair amount of research i was happy with my choice of changing my .243 for a new Sako hunter. I liked the traditional look, the accuracy claimed both by friends and by sako and the media. Im left handed, didnt realy want or need a left handed rifle but all sakos have a palm swell and cheak piece, so i ordered a left handed version..... No worries.............. .........Then........... Just had a phone call to say Sako dont do left handed.... I dont realy need a left handed bolt, as all my rifles have always been right handed... I just want a rifle with no cheek piece and no palm swell, that is supremely accurate, looks nice and is a good stalking rifle. Money is not a problem within reason, so what would you suggest.... I know the Tikka hunter can be had in left handed, but its not quite as nice as the Sako. How do you all find your Tikkas, Accurate ? Cheers. Nik. Devon Fox
My Tikka is spot on - its only me that lets it down Good quality gun at a decent price - if You opt for one, you will not regret it
steve_b_wales
Tikka T3 Lite. A brilliant rifle, and deadly accurate, straight out of the box. Even the trigger was perfect (for me) on my rifle. Steve.
sethb
why not go down the custom rifle build road, you could pick your stock of choice, barrel and action, just done the same with uk gunworks, shoots a dream.
Paddy Galore!
Tikka has the same barrel as the sako apparently...
Dekers
I have a T3 in .223 and .243 and I was shooting next to a left handed .243 T3 Lite at Bisley on Sunday. The Sako is NO more accurate than a Tikka, spend what you like and Sako are nice, but I buy rifles as tools, not to hang on the wall, Tikka does what I need, Sako will not do it any better! ATB! foggy11
Thanks guys... Thats what i wanted to hear realy... Dont realy understand the price difference then...... Sako are CONSIDERABLY more expensive...
WGD
Hold a Sako, then hold a Tikka, you'll soon see where the money goes. I agree 100% with Dekers, they are tools and we buy what we like, I have a Sako 85 at the moment and it most certainly does not "hang on the wall"! Can't argue with that (and Sako nick all the best wood too, before Tikka gets a look in), and if the funds were there I very likely would get a Sako...... just because I would like one, why not?! Well, we can all think about a Ferrari or Aston or Bentley or Roller or ...., but none of them are any more use than my van or 4x4, they just do it in a different way! ATB! foggy11
I know exactly what you meen........ref, the use... But my funds do allow and i wanted the Sako just because............ But they dont do a bl**dy left handed one.......... I know a Tikka will shoot better than me, but im just not going to be happy now... Unless something very odd happens you WILL be happy with a Tikka! May I suggest the Hunter, better balance than the Lite if you get the factory threaded model, the Lite can present issues if you want a mod! I am what is jovially referred to as a Professional, I do not accept tools that don't work, Tikka works for me, if it didn't I would get something else. .223 Lite .243 Hunter and a .308 Rem SPS Edited April 7, 2011 by Dekers

deputy dog
I'm in the same process with my .243 Foggy mate. Sportsman Gun Centre are doing an attractive range of combos with their .243s. The rifle a choice between REDFIELD SIGHTS OR ZIESS Duralyt 3x12-50 sights and also a Wildcat or Reflex moderators. Iv been looking at a few of them an its between the Browning Or Tikka Super Varmint. Combo prices vari between £1200 and £2000+ but i'm looking at About the in between mark say £1500 may be more at a push. They said it may take a while to process my variation for it so i got a little more time to save for it. And with her being back in work i got a little more to put away. I'll have to have a look at those Sakos as well. Decisions decision is right mate lol. DD
wildfowler.250
Why not buy a sako and get a custom stock without a cheek piece? Never fired a T3 but I would have no concerns about their accuracy. Could do up a Remington?

Fine if you lamp from a vehicle but forget walking far with it
garyb
Agreed. I have the Super Varmint in 243.. and it weighs a ton, perfect for my needs as I only use it for Foxing and use the 308 for stalking
