harveykeitel22
Im thinking of getting a bigger rifle, as where i work, on a free range egg chicken farm, we have lots and lots of problems with fox's, and im debating whether to apply for a 222 or 223, want help to make a decision. vampire
I would say a .223,as i have just bought one this is the advise i was given after asking, one reason given is the ammo choice is more plentiful in .223. No doubt you will have loads of opinions on the subject from more experienced cf users.
kent
as you need to ask get the .223 as its more common and popular you should never struggle getting a box of the right cartriges locally
Devon Fox
I used to have a 222 and it was excellent, took my fair share with it, how ever if i had to chose now I would go 223, not much between them - just a bigger choice of rifles and rounds on the rack. truckboy1
I have the 223 and i too have taken a lot of fox's with it i personally use 55 grain Vmax ballistic tip rounds but my advice is dont worry too much about the quality of rifle but more about the quality of the scope as that will make all the difference. Hope you find what you are looking for ATB
harveykeitel22
a friend of mine said the same about getting a really good scope and not spending so much on the rifle, i was thinking of going down the CZ route for the rifle
magman
.223 only because rifle and bullet choice is greater not much in them if reloading Both have been used to good effect out to 600 yards on the ranges
highseas
a friend of mine said the same about getting a really good scope and not spending so much on the rifle, i was thinking of going down the CZ route for the rifle you cant get better than a cz 527 for foxes ive got one and it will shoot half inch or better most of the time. i load my own now thou, a good scope is a must have, for shure
henry d
Im thinking of getting a bigger rifle, as where i work, on a free range egg chicken farm, we have lots and lots of problems with fox's, and im debating whether to apply for a 222 or 223, want help to make a decision. The decision is whether you will just be shooting fox or other beasts as well. If it is just fox then the triple or .223 will do, if you want to shoot crows and other small beasts, then the triple is better IMHO. If you need to, at a later date want/need to shoot small deer then the .223 will be better, but the .243 will be better again.
Dekers
In reality there is not a significant difference in performance in the field, but for practicality, especially if you are not reloading, then the .223 wins.
SPEEDY
Honestly, it won't make a lick of difference either way, cost of ammo maybe.

Does that not say something? There is nothing wrong with a .222, especially if you reload, if you don't then a .223 is the way to go 100%. Everyone who has a .222 will tell you how good it is, and they are right, but there is a LOT more to any calibre than happy owners! ATB! Mr_Logic
I have both; both work. 223 gives you a bit more range. It's probably the better calibre, but I do like the triple as well. Tend to find it gets used more often; while it does mash up the bunnies, I don't feel it's quite as silly as .223. Odd really as there's so little difference, but there you go... The fact of getting a good deal might be reason enough, a nice s/hand .222 against a .223 in value could buy a fair bit of ammo. Buy 500 keep 600 and your laughing (thats a lot of foxes) Just bid on one myself they are just too many nice .222's needing a good loving home presently

bullet boy
Both are a fantastic Fox round but I use a 22-250 to great effect!
