222 or 223 for fox's

Recommended Posts

I would say a .223,as i have just bought one :good: this is the advise i was given after asking, one reason given is the ammo choice is more plentiful in .223.

No doubt you will have loads of opinions on the subject from more experienced cf users.

I have the 223 and i too have taken a lot of fox's with it i personally use 55 grain Vmax ballistic tip rounds but my advice is dont worry too much about the quality of rifle but more about the quality of the scope as that will make all the difference.

Hope you find what you are looking for

a friend of mine said the same about getting a really good scope and not spending so much on the rifle, i was thinking of going down the CZ route for the rifle

you cant get better than a cz 527 for foxes ive got one and it will shoot half inch or better most of the time. i load my own now thou, a good scope is a must have, for shure

Im thinking of getting a bigger rifle, as where i work, on a free range egg chicken farm, we have lots and lots of problems with fox's, and im debating whether to apply for a 222 or 223, want help to make a decision.

The decision is whether you will just be shooting fox or other beasts as well. If it is just fox then the triple or .223 will do, if you want to shoot crows and other small beasts, then the triple is better IMHO. If you need to, at a later date want/need to shoot small deer then the .223 will be better, but the .243 will be better again.

well sorry for starting the topic :/ , i got a very good deal on a 222, and ive spoke to to other people about it, and they are all saying that there isnt much in it, between the two

Of course you will get a good deal on a .222, because nobody wants them these days, even Remington, of Remington .222, who introduced the calibre, no longer chamber ANY guns in .222 (someone correct me if I missed one somewhere!) Does that not say something?

There is nothing wrong with a .222, especially if you reload, if you don't then a .223 is the way to go 100%.

Everyone who has a .222 will tell you how good it is, and they are right, but there is a LOT more to any calibre than happy owners!

I have both; both work. 223 gives you a bit more range. It's probably the better calibre, but I do like the triple as well. Tend to find it gets used more often; while it does mash up the bunnies, I don't feel it's quite as silly as .223. Odd really as there's so little difference, but there you go...

The fact of getting a good deal might be reason enough, a nice s/hand .222 against a .223 in value could buy a fair bit of ammo. Buy 500 keep 600 and your laughing (thats a lot of foxes) Just bid on one myself they are just too many nice .222's needing a good loving home presently :D
