Cranfield
The BASC might have an idea. I suppose you take the number of SGC's issued, subtract the only clay shooters, subtract the only game shooters and whats left are the pigeon shooters. cant hit rabbits 123
Not collecting information for Animal Aid or some other such organisation are you pigeon360? I have recently taken severe dislike to them and this seems rather odd for a first post.

pigeon360
hi all nothing fishy nothing to worry about, i have been working and developing a product which i feel will be very usefull in the hide, not telling you what it is just yet,its a nice luxury though which will retail at around £12.99. The reason i am asking how many pigeon shooters there are is because i have come to the stage where all my costs have been added up including tooling costs which are very expensive, with a rough count of pigeon shooters i will be able to determine if it is feasable to produce the product. dan-250
I should say quite alot, as you dont actually have to be licenced for an air rifle so there is no accurate data to say how manypigeon shooters there are, All you need is permission or a large garden, maybe a hide an decoys if your really into it. Me and my dad arnt licenced so that's 2 of how many more like us off the list.

Then wouldn`t determining your target market be the first thing to do before spending anything to see if it`s viable? a member of dragons den i`m not but thought i would ask? cant hit rabbits 123
The trouble with your question, how many pigeon shooters are there (aprox) is that there are alot of pigeon shooters who would not require your product (whatever it may be) as you said it is for use in a hide. There are lots of pigeon shooters that don't use a hide. (soon to be me included) Try asking for aprox numbers of decoyers? I hope your project goes well, and all the best. Magus69
If it's patentable get that sorted then have a few prototypes built/made for you then offer them on here for a free review/evaluation,listen and act upon the feedback, you might need to adjust/modify your product, people may also say your product is a pile of poo and wouldn't sell or simply that your item isn't needed in a hide,I for one believe if somethings not essential in the hide then it shouldn't be there. I can't really see the point of investing huge amounts of money on production, packaging, marketing, etc, if you're gonna be stuck with a warehouse full. Mike... Highlander
I'm full of statistics today. Surveys conducted by BASC back in 1997/98 indicated that some 70% of (BASC) members shot pigeons. What's the current BASC membership some 129k I think (which is pretty poor given the numbers of people who shoot) so around 90k give or take. You might like to consider that after reading the current posts in 'Talk from the Field' about pigoen numbers.
M ROBSON
There is also a huge European/American market for decoying gear, we get guys buying stuff all the time while their here on shooting holidays from abroad. Mark.

ack-ack
can anyone tell me an aprox number of pigeon shooters there are in the uk? According to Johnny Scott in his and Clarrissa DR's game cookbook (2004) there are approximately 300k pigeon shooters in the UK. Nice book if you fancy a gentle introduction into cooking your quarry as well.
