Well this was my first attempt in re-oiling a stock, the gun is an aya yeoman given to me by my grandad which was also my dads gun not worth much but has strong sentimental value. I have also left one of the chips in the stock as it has a story to tell from when my dad was a kid. The first photos are of the stock before.

All the varnish chipped and peeling. I used nitro Morse and wire wool with light sand paper, stripped all the old stuff off if it then washed in cold soapy water and degreased. I used a toothbrush in the chequering which seemed to work well. I then used a wet tea towl and iron to get all the scratches out then over the space of a few weeks rubbed in true-oil then sanded back slightly each time till I was happy with the finish. Off to the local gun shop for a service and it's all back together. Next time I'm on the Clays I'll take it with me and see how it handles a few light carts :good: I'm a happy man it's nice to give something that's been in my family fir a while a new lease of life (even though it is not a mega expense gun)

That's living history, maybe one day it will belong to your grandson :good:

Hopefully so it's a nice thought to see this be passed through them all. Also good as it's not a pricey gun but more of a work horse that should get used quite regulary. And maybe in years to come one if them will re do the stock :good:

That stock is a credit to you mate, very well done.

Just goes to show how little equipment and a little know how can have great results.

Helps if the timer has the grain in the first place but as someone mentioned, AYA's really are cracking little guns, especially the older models.

Superb!!

Make sure you pass on the story of the dent and of a memorable event of your own, that way it becomes part of your family.
