Catamong
I heard on the news tonight about the Indian Actor, Salman Khan, who was jailed in India for 5 years, (yes 5 years!!) for shooting a protected Indian Gazelle. If we had a judicial system like that in this country, poaching would cease overnight..!! Cat.

SNAKEBITE
Slightly off topic but......... Has anyone seen that 't'-shirt with a picture of Harold Shipman wearing a headband with the words "Old dear hunter" written above it?

il cacciatore
Whats the punishment in Britain for poaching anyway? If someone was caught poaching but werent given an over 3 year sentence then by law I think there is nothing to say they cant have another certificate or am I wrong? sidney
i think on short sentences you get ban of a few years from holding a certificate, if over 3 years in jail you get an complete ban from having one.. will try and check to see if i have remmbered correctly sid
Lord Geordie
A friend of mine was done for poaching 2 times. Fish though not deer but the same thing i would have thought. Fined each time but nothing more HIS friend was confronted by a Baliff one day and ran the baliff over trying to escape in the car I was expecting him to go down for that but the Baliff dropped the charges and HE was simply fined too I don't get it myself??? Surely poaching carries a stiffer sentence than a fine??? Oh and even with 2 convictions for poaching he got his SGC Weird LG
Dave-G
You cannot hold a FAC for 5 years if the sentence was less than three years Edit: Actually I am slighly incorrect there - you cannot use or own ANY firearm (inc 12ftlb) within 5 years of release from a penal institution Edited April 11, 2006 by Dave-G
mel b3
on release from prison i believe everyone (serving a sentance over 3 months) signs the firearms act ,prohibiting them from handling ANY firearm for a period of 5yrs , if the prison sentance was over 3 yrs the prisoner is permanently prohibited from handling any firearm , iirc in scotland anyone recieving any prison sentance is permanently prohibited from handling firearms. unless u is a bad *** gangsta innit

If you go to jail you can never get a certificate ever again? Even for a wee while? Go to Jail, go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect 200 pounds. Frank
Over here in southern Ireland, if someone is cought poaching deer without a deer permit and correct caliber of rifle and written permission, you will get a 1200 euro fine for each deer or 3months in the slammer, or both.( depending on judge) You permanetly loose all firearms and never get to have one again.
