i've posted this in the 'off topic' section but thought i try here just incase. hope that ok with the mods, double post, sorry if not.

need to buy a new drill for work, and was just wondering if anyone on here can reccomend a decent one? it'll get a lot of use, mainly used for putting in and taking out screws. needs to be portable (not plug into mains) and ideally looking for one with long battery life as i'll be using it around farm and dont want it to run out miles from anywhere! looking to spend about 50 notes but could go to a max of 80. cheers.

Do you actually need to drill things or just use it as a screwdriver?

A decent cordless drill will set u back anywhere from 150 to 300.

You might however get a cordless screwdriver for around your budget, looking in machine mart there are a few from around 60-100

In a word, Panasonic. (Or maybe Festool if you're minted)

they also make the best batteries by far. I.T.S have some good deals on panasonic gear,

Also, did you know, that there's only 2 or 3 manufacturers of the battery cells for cordless equipment?

Makita aren't what they were in quality, dewalt are just poo at everything except maybe chop saws, milwaukee (who were once atlas copco) aren't much better. If you want cheap and cheerful, and don't mind replacing at least once a year then pay a visit to B&Q and pick up a ryobi.

I bought an AEG 18v cordless drill from B and Q. It was £80. Including 2 batteries and a built in drill set. Charging is 60 mins. Can't remember the max torque but it has been brilliant. Still on offer I believe.

Oh. I forgot its got a hammer drill setting as well.

i have one of these, for when it's raining or muddy and i don't want to get my posh drill dirty

very powerful motor, batteries are now a pain to remove, had one blow up too, also the variable clutch isn't that accurate, the lithium ion batteries won't charge in the cold, but i also have 2 ni cad batts that do. good for the money, they do lots of other 18v tools aswell. :good: the circular saw is particularly handy along with the jigsaw and planer which i got as a whole kit from I.T.S for less than £400.

We use loads of drills at work. I would go for either a Makita or DeWalt; both make decent models. Most of the decent ones will be around £150-£250 mark though.

Anything for £50 will be pretty rubbish; if that is your budget then get searching on ebay for a refurb or second hand model.

B&Q have an offer on Makita drills - check the voltage 14.4 or higher is better.

One I saw was a 14.4 with 2 batteries £90

The batteries for my Makita cost £75 each so for me its better to buy the drill and batteries.

Plenty of special offers at the mo but get the best.

I have a Site "made by makita" 14.4v which has impressed so much I have stopped using 18v I have at your budget you'll struggle and I can chew through a nicad in 15 min drilling timber with 32mm holes but for screwing it lasts all day

got one me self, good little tool, and they come with three batteries.

the only downside is they come in carpenters pink

I have an AEG Drill, with a Lithium Battery. I think its on par with the Makita range. I believe AEG is a company related to Milwalkee.
