Mike Connally
I guess the ultimate recycling is just to reload them. I have about 40,000 empties in my basement and 5 different reloaders. I have several hundred pounds of shot and probably 20 pounds of different types of powder. Shells are inexpensive enough right now that I haven't bothered to reload for many years now.
humperdingle
A mate of mine made a fruit bowl by hot-glueing empties together... I've also heard of people making beaded-curtains with them  They also work quite well to keep hide netting on the poles - Just slip an empty cart over the top of the pole. Alpha Mule
Christmas morning must be a magical time in your houses  I use my empties for brightening up landfills

Big Mat
to make them take out primer hold onto the plastic case and warm the brass over a gas flame rotating as soon as you start to see the plastic lip onto the brass remove frome flame .hold the brass with a tea towel and twist off leaving a nice shiny brass where the primer used to be is splayed, you need to knock that flat and then on one half you need to open out slightly. i have an oversized punch when it fits just inside the other knock together with a rubber mallet .to finish use a ball pean hammer to slightly concave each half and then use paracord to make a lanyard, atb wayne one more thing suck dont blow I like that, think i'll give it a go. Thanks for explaining how to do it
mereside
just so people are aware the small brass has ,i think the best sound as its higher pitch to the tall brass ,atb wayne
demonwolf444
That would make sense. Any mechanical noise (I would have thought) would dissipate more than the report, wouldn't it? that what i read mate, that down range they make enough of a change to the noise the quarry hears for it to be worth the extra weight and effort, tbh you do really notice the effect on the XS
dk6052
I've seen people use them as holders for clipper lighters, they push straight into a 12 bore cartridge.
sodit
stick them on the top of bamboo canes down on the allotment saves poking your eyes every now and then Good idea do it myself. Thunderbird
I made a couple of these little matchbox thingys the other day and the hardest part was slicing the cartridge (the one that you don't remove the brass) from cleanly through. I tried my sharpest knife and it was still a pain getting the cut clean and straight.
ging125
I have seen people using these as carp feeders when fishing.
sitty tree
hello thunderbird. i am new member to the site . i do a lot of fowling you can make widgeon callers from winchester and ely brass heads once you have got plastic of. put them inside each other it is a good snug fit and just make a dent in till you get the right call effect.some times if the heads are a bit loose small amount of super glue does the trick. (these work very well tried and tested) ps just another use for spent shells.

I tried my sharpest knife and it was still a pain getting the cut clean and straight. I made some of these a while ago after seeing them in a Ray Mears book. I used an old pair of nail scissors to trim the top as these were small and nimble enough to keep the cut straight.

Spara Dritto
So far, I've made a cartridge clock (numbers out of the brass heads). Used the cartridge as a mould for a candle (keeping the brass as the base) and also a match box.
demonwolf444
cartridge display and last year i collected spent carts of 8 diff colours then used four green ones for 12, 3, 6, 9, then bought a cheap clock and stole the mecanism from it and put them together! Didn't shoot anything (the three of us didn't, all the birds were flying straight down the middle of the river) but loved the experience being out there, a real first for me. Whilst I didn't shoot anything I did come away with something, as the kind person (and PW member) I was with gave me a brace of Mallard as he'd had a good day the day before. I'm going again, definitely.
Davva
Are the brasses made of brass, stupid question I know , if so, can you weigh them in at a scrap metal merchant. Most are brass plated steel - So pretty worthless really!
gamekeeper1960
I thought rabbits foot had disappeared, used to have one ages ago, not seen any since. Not as PC in this day and age, bring back the good old days . Might make my own the next rabbit I shoot . Strange but they never seemed to be lucky for the rabbit Dave.
