To all those who think your dog is rock steady, try walking them into a heard of deer while its running loose

We regularly put roe and muntjac up when beating, and I am mightily impressed when they run through the line and guns dogs just glance at them and not even think about getting off after them.

oh, they can be trained not to- just deer are the natural prey of dogs not pheasants, many are suprised when fido thinks " i am avin one of dem"

Welcome to my world. I live on the edge of Ashridge Forest with 3,000 deer in it and my GWP used to chase badly. I found it quite hard to knock out of him but we're getting there.

Oh, my feelings go out to you- once a proper GWP gets into self hunting Deer you got a rocky road to travel

..and that, for all the haters out there, would be classic correction scenario for an eCollar.

[On the dog I mean ;)]

So how would you use an e collar to sort this? all the vids I've found on the net about collars are for american style obedience training where they are used on very low power just to 'tap' the dog to reinforce commands. i can't see our friend Fenton paying much attention. Not a hater of collars, but I've thought about this for my dog before he gets himself killed on the road and not sure of the technique you'd actually use.
