leeboy
Got my first ever hare ! It was alot bigger than I expected and tasted far better than I thought it would. For some reason I expected it to taste like rabbit but it was much nicer. I probably wont take another as I dont see them often. SPEEDY
Congratulations, as there is no finer meat IMO then Hare. I’m lucky enough to have a couple of properties with good numbers on them, so I get a couple to eat every other week. I hope that their numbers pick up in your area and you can get a few more. MC
There is no season for Hares, there is a restriction on the time you can sell them. I think that you can't sell them between 31st March and 1st Oct. Not entirely sure of the dates but the hare shoot I normally go on is normally the last weekend in february. The time that you can't sell hares is 1st march to 31st july Cheers Martin

Highlander
I probably wont take another as I dont see them often. Leeboy Well done Leeboy...you've probably wiped out the last in your area! If not you've probably left a whole load of young 'uns to starve. This is not the time of year to be killing hares. Oh yes it's legal BUT it ain't sporting, this is the middle of their breeding season. Hares appear to be plentiful in certain areas but in others they are very much in decline. dazza
there's a closed season over here, Aug 12 - Jan 31, very few of them in my area so I wouldn't touch them anytime
Axe
The judgement was taken to shoot and eat. Good shooting, good eating. I hardly see Hare on my shoots so won't be taking them.
leeboy
Cheers fellas Highlander, I have no wish to wipe out anything and have passed up opportunities to shoot other hares. I dont see hares very often but I dont often shoot areas that contain hares. They are not uncommon where I shot that one although there isnt so many that they would be an agricultural pest. On that particular morning the hare was the icing on the cake. Had a fantastic few hours shooting where for once I shot reasonably well and amassed a fair bag of pigeon, crows, rooks, 2 magpies and 3 squirrels and finished with a personal first that I ate the same day. I have no urge to shoot another on that permission. Maybe next year I'll take another for the pot if there are a few about. regards Leeboy
