i had a bash with the old fella at catton today to blow the cobwebs away not shot a clay for 4 months so thought i would dirty the barrels on a few, didn,t do too bad considering ended up 3rd in b class with an 83 the old fella shot a 78 in c class so both picked up a few quid

but the outstanding score was brett winstanley who shot 100 straight  the first ever at catton hall in 25 years

Yes I was there and I saw and spoke to Yellow Bear as well, was reasonably pleased with my score (90) after some of the dismal performances I've put in recently.

I suspected one of the AAA boys would be in the high 90's but 100 straight takes not just good shooting but strong nerves as well!

So Graham Stirzaker's 100 straights don't count then?

well i can,t comment on that, but martin mann who runs and owns the shoot said this at the money giving stage at the end i was sat with 10 others in the clubhouse and he said no one has done it in 25 years so i would question martin mann i,m just saying what i heard :good:

Never mind so did he ABABAB and so on

That's got **** all to do with anything.

When I'm in A Class I enter as A Class. If I go down to B Class, I enter as B Class.

Additionally, if a shooter is unclassified, they should enter as "Unclassified" not pluck a class out of the air.

:stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid::stupid:

But I don't hold out much hope for CH to do anything about it :hmm::no::hmm::no: As it's an open (i.e. not CPSA registered) shoot they can do pretty much what they like.

Unfortunately I would be surprised if they did the right thing which as Chard said earlier is to have 4 or 5 random & secret stands and classify on the day on the unclassified shooter scores on those stands.

It always seems a bit iffy to me when a ground "borrows" the CPSA classifications to hold an open shoot but in the case of CH they are a registered ground so it probably is kosher. The decision for them then is how they deal with people who do not have a classification. There are a few options;

Only people with a CPSA classification to enter the comp, no current classification then it's birds only.

A separate class for those with no classification (doubt if many would take that gamble!)

Do it properly and have classification on the day, with a calculator or laptop it shouldn't take more than a few seconds to work out the persons class after they hand their card in.

Any of the above would work but if they, Catton Hall, persist in allowing people to enter in whatever class the think they should be in, then suspicion will always be there.

Tomorrow will also be interesting, as Hodnet (I believe) is also unregistered. :hmm:

Unlike Catton Hall, there is half-decent money on offer and I'll be looking out for this tomorrow and I will kick off like a mad **** if it happens there

This is why I'm reluctant to enter unregistered competitions. Unfortunately, some of the best comps in the country are unregistered, such as Essex Masters, Clay Shooting Classic, Hodnet Challenge etc and there are always dubious classifications knocking around. Unfortunately, the grounds and organisers don't give a ******* toss, as they've got the money, they pay out the prizes and they're not much bothered who gets it <_<

Not saying it can't happen in registered comps, but it flags up like a beacon, because the results are there for all to see on the CPSA site :sly:

Fully agree with Potter & Chard

Once the grounds have your money they don't seem to care (and that's being polite !!!) :yp:

I shot at Kegworth yesterday,100 Reg'd Esp,and saw three people shooting with no glasses on and the ref's never questioned it :o

Rules are rules or are they there to be broken

Azzurri (usually AA or AAA for reg'd and only shoot Opens at Orston...Cos they do it right)

This is the reason why I'm allways reluctant to enter these type of competitions.

If I had entered the CA comp and been beaten out of the prizes in B-class by someone who the CPSA has down as A class, then I would have been ******* off to say the least. And I'd be asking for my comp entry fee back.

But it goes on at the highest and lowest level in this game. <_<

I have given up taking this sport seriously because of poor Reffing, Sandbagging, Cheating etc.

And also because I'm **** at it :P

competitions only for me in future. shot catton and scored 86 /100 in B, which would have qualified for some dosh I think.

Somehow I got it in my mind that 'open' meant open, ie. no classes at all and hence shot BO! Silly me.

Bad luck chap, you'd have got 2nd in B Class with that

I've heard an unclassified competitor being asked "what class they want to shoot in" somewhere :hmm:

Can't remember where and when it was, but any answer other than "C Class" would have been a surprise. It's a farce. In these big unregistered comps, like the Clay Shooting Classic or the Essex Masters, you can get pigeon shooters who've been shooting all their lives and can knock pigeons out of the sky all day. They're not CPSA members, have no classification and they get asked what class "they would like to shoot in". Load of ********. They win B or C Class with a stonking high score and you won't hear from them again till next year.

It wants sorting out once and for all. The sport deserves no credibility until it is. <_<

well i,m gonna have my say after reading the replies, i just thought i would put a post on thinking it may be interesting to say someone shot a 100 straight and say how i did also, but basically i,m being called a cheat sandbagger etc, i shot in the class i was in 4 years ago the last time i was a cpsa member, so thinking i was still in b class shot in it. and being an open event thats all i can enter in competition so i have no idea when the class has changed if it has changed like said i used to shoot registered comps and obviousley put me cards in, i didn,t rejoin the cpsa again 4 years ago, because i wasn,t really shooting enough clays, to justify paying membership so joined basc because i shoot more game than clays.

The classification history on the CPSA site goes back to Issue 35, which was 2007/2008, when you were A Class.

You shot registered events in A Class, through issues 35, 36 and 37, then stopped. You have never been in B Class since Issue 35.

The old fella has never been in C Class or any other class.

It's on the website for you and anybody else to see.

It's just a pity that Catton Hall can't be bothered to use the information on there.
