Protect my new boots

I got some new musto buckden boots today.Whats the best thing to put on them to protect and preserve?

if boots are made of leather put SPORT WAX by MEINDL

its natural wax + other stuff but its contain conditioner so they wont crack.

 

or nikwax. in tube. good but need conditioner every 10 weeks.

I use Scarpa HS12 on my leather boots. It's much easier to work in than a traditional waxes and unlike the new waterbased nikwax, it also conditions the leather.

dont use dubin its animal fat + thiners

it will rot threds and dry leather ( it will crack)

i work in outdoors shop and every boot maker will woid garanty after using dubin.

BTW if they are goretex dubin will damage membrane.

I wouldn't recommend Nikwax. I spent ages doing my high leg Danner boots with it. First time out in the wet, the leather was absolutely soaked.

I didn't know Dubbin was "harmful" to boots

They are girls boots. Put them in your handbag or the boot of your Ford Ka when you arent wearing them.

 

Alternatively Screwfix (mans shop) sells these - BOOT PROTECTION FOR GIRLS BOOTS

I got a pair of Karimor boots from Sports Direct (£45 or so), leather uppers. I use a leather dressing liquid on them. It's a mixture of neatsfoot oil and lanolin. Got it from a tack shop. Apparently horsey people use it for things like bridles and saddles. Goes on well and does the business.

Saddle soap. Available cheaply from your local equestrian supplier and don`t forget good

old boot polish.

I use Brasher conditioning cream on my meindl's, I'm surprised they didn't try to sell you anything my wife got some with her buckdens, it was a spray on thing. can't remember what it easy called.

All I use on my scarpa's is good old fashioned kiwi boot polish. They are gortex lined so I assume the waterproof comes from the lining but the polish keeps the leather supple.

Any other product but MEINDL used on meindl boots will void maindle garante. ( i have to tell that to lot of customers and then duck)

 

YES only goretex lining is waterproof not boot itself.

KIWI polish is ok but there is no conditioners in them su will dry leather after while.

I use Nikwax on my Buckdens and Grangers wax on short leather boots, with Nikwax you need to get the right stuff for the job your doin -- check out the Nikwax site

I used the Nikwax waterproofing wax for leather. It was as much use as Ed Miliband.

Graingers ma boy!, i got some boots from Swillies and they reommended Graingers, softner than a Virgins thigh and waterproof too.

Don't the above products affect the look of what is a nubuck kind of leather and not a shiny one?

Sno-seal worked wonders on my aussie jacaru suede leather hat, but did affect the look of the suede. Worth it though, nothing gets through now.

Snoseal or is it Snowseal an American product which I have not seen in years but very effective on traditional leather boots.

I use both neatsfoot oil and dubbin on my 22 year old Brasher walking boots and they look and feel like new.

 

None of the stitching has rotted and neither has the waterproof membrane.
