deershooter
Take a look here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-16277806 :exclamation: What they have not told us that this will include the LINCOLNSHIRE POLICE FIREARMS LICENCING DEPARTMENT all but the two managers will become employees of G4S. Will you be happy for non Police employees to know you have guns where the keys are and to let them in to your house and handle your guns? They are on about issuing G4S with a dealers licence so there employees can act as agents is this leagle? The chief constable has just retirered as has the head of admin are they going to take employment with G4S? Think I better get down the bookies on that one must be worth a wager !!! :hmm: Deershooter
Livefast123
Something about that doesn't sit right.....a private company being involved with running the police......oh yeah, and it's G4S who can't even keep prisoners safely locked in their vans I don't think I really fancy some civilian knowing anything about my guns especially where my safe is, queue the G4Sgate scandel where 100's of fac/sgc holders houses are burgled after a laptop/cd goes missing. If i was a betting man! Edited February 22, 2012 by Livefast123

gixer1
Why is this any different to Parcelforce or DHL handling guns when you move from RFD to RFD? doesn't matter as long as they are allowed to do so...

bedwards1966
NO ONE should know where your keys are..... Its a Question they ask Deershooter So when they asked you that question, did you tell them it's hidden behind the skirting board of the bedroom or whatever? I don't recall being asked that, and if I was I certainly would NOT be telling them. I'd never tell them where it was. I wouldn't want that info on any system. It does seem a bit strange for the police to work with an outside firm, it's surprising. One would think that all the people now working with the police would have to be checked out to the same levels required of the rest of the police, therefore there should be no issues, what will be different? It seems like our details of Firearm ownership is already accessible to non-police people anyway, as doctors are now notified of new SGC/FAC grants anyway aren't they? Therefore any civilian working with doctors (nurses, receptionists etc) can access that data now. It's just how I'm seeing it right now anyway, I may be completely wrong! Thedeerman
They often ask your Mrs if she knows where the keys are to test you. There is only one answer you can give if they ask you where your keys are - None of your business!!

Haytime
Most Chief's will be looking to see how the G4S thing works out. Rest assured, if it works well on paper, I can forsee it going to other force area's. PNC checks are carried out by support staff as well, PNC will show that you are a SGC or FAC holder. I suspect that G4S wont be given access to PNC in the early days, however if they can be trusted to run prisons....who knows. Most officers coming up to retirement age will jump on the G4S pay train.........

Floating Chamber
I've heard, from a mate, that G4S is having a 'make over'. Nice black uniforms, peaked hats, boots and arm bands. The name change, which, at the moment sounds like a lover's pledge ('Giles 4 Stan') will be changed to 'S.S.' njc110381
Why can't you tell your firearms officer where your keys are? My mrs knows... They're in a keysafe inside another safe so good luck getting them out! The others are in my pocket, same answer as before.
Steel100
Deershooter, VERY interested in the idea of G4S (or anyone else for that matter) taking over licensing. Real can of worms! How about all those flare pistols, humane killers, tranquilliser guns / blowpipes, trophies of war, collectors pistols and Brococks? They wouldn't be able to go near any of that stuff unless they were given Section 5 dealer status. Also, who's going to sign the FACs and SGCs? Has to be Chief Constable or someone delegated by them - doubt that sub-contracted staff could legally do it without a change to primary legislation. Not saying that it cannot happen; but I'll be really interested to see how they manage to legally!! All the best Andy

By your wife knowing she has in effect got access to your guns and unless they are on her sgc also then you have broken the law...... Which could result in 5 years minimum
