I live in my boots all year round and get through at least two pairs a year no matter how expensive they are, so I now buy cheap Regatta walking boots (£25) from our local farm suppliers. Really comfortable, leather uppers, waterproof and will last one summer or one winter.

cooter
i got the gortex from thease http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/ishop/1069/shopscr4.html +1. I am on my second pair of these and at £15 a pop they have lasted two years each of all weather wear. A quick clean down after use, apply dubbing every month or so when used in wet weather, and a polish when they start to look scuffed up. I also bought a brand new pair of desert boots and they are very comfortable.

Poacher
have a look at Altberg or Lowa, i swear by my altbergs although be careful on choosing size, they are undoubtedly the best bit of kit i own.

bicykillgaz
My meindl Burma mfs are cracking boots and the memory foam around the heel and ankle area means they are comfortable straight from the box, no painful bedding in period. can't fault them retail about £140 Gary Edited March 17, 2012 by bicykillgaz
paul041075
Look at any good Gortex lined walking boots, always work berghaus myself. Go Outdoors stock these as well as Miendl and others, find the best price on line get a print out and Go Outdoors will beat the price by 10% (I think). I ended up getting a pair of £120 walking boots (as below link) for £60.00 http://store.berghaus.com/p/hiking-trekking/mens-explorer-trek-gore-tex-walking-boots/480022

Catweazle
I bought Berghaus Mens Explorer Ridge, eBay, £59 I think. They are a mid-range boot but very good for the money. I bought my lad a pair of Meindl, they are a step up, but they should be at that price. I also have army surplus, grade 1 and these are immaculate - you wouldn't know they were used if private Fraser hadn't written his name and number on the tongue. Cambs shooter
I've just bought a pair of harkila 10inch from John Norris. Cracking boot. A bit tight at first and they do come up a bit small so if you go for them go a size up. http://www.johnnorris.co.uk/shop/ty_973-*winter-sale/11276-harkila-special-offer-mountain-hunt-gtx-10in-boots-3318.html
