root canal fillings?

i have had two root canal fillings on rear molars (dentist always seems keen on doing them :hmm: ), one has been redone twice, and still does not seem quite right, the other was redone twice, i have had lots of pain from it, leading to two infections, the dentist attempted a third today which failed, and I had to have the tooth pulled out, face now like a football and killing me

everyone i seem to talk to who has had one done - seems to have had trouble with them, i have got to be honest - if its suggested i have one done again, unless its a front tooth - i'm not going to bother - they can pull the tooth out... had anyone had one done that worked fine? or is my dentist a bit sweeney-todd :hmm:

If root canal is where they take nerve out and fill it then I have had front tooth done - has to be over 30yrs ago and not had a problem - tooth still looks whitish.

I feel that in old days dentist's really did have pride in job - I have a few gold fillings and even now new dentist comments on how good they are - have to give credit to first Indian dentist I ever went to.

A decent X-ray will show up these very well.

I had some bad ones from a long time ago that got sorted out but never had any pain problems. Check the X-ray after it is done...... It needs to fill all the root or get the dentist to re do it.

Forget the pain killers, just put up with the pain the you really can feel when the probe goes into the jaw nerve..... !!!!!!

I had one rear molar done and had to wait as the specialist dentist was on holiday in Bermuda. Nightmare drilling, disinfectant spray and it lasted for one month and I had to pay to have it removed. Cost of root canal, apart from pain etc., £250 - 15 years ago now. The dentist is probably, even as we speak, in Bermuda.

Never again.

I had one done ~3 years ago on the NHS. Dentist wanted to pull the tooth (more cost effective for them that way) but I insisted on a root filling.

Had it done with no local anaesthetic - you need to feel the twinge to make sure he's gone deep enough.

It was left low for a year to make sure it settled (it did) and now has a crown. Cost me £100. Brilliant value, tooth perfect.

I had one done, had to go back due to severe pain, dentist hadn't removed enough of the insides....so had to go through it all again.

Painful, yes, but soon settled once ALL the nerve was removed! However about a year later the tooth split, I went back and the dentist wasn't suprised at all: "its got no blood supply, hows it supposed to last?" says he

So I had the remaining bits removed....but he broke the tooth below the gum line and said I need to have it removed in hospital as stitches will be involved

Waited 6 months for a hospital app, only to have it cancelled on the day....still waiting for another app date!

My advice....go private! I would but just cannot afford to pay: £250 for the root canal, which lasted a year, then 45 for removal, which dentist cocked up, now waiting for NHS for removal of stump, I then still need the hole filling

Or go to Poland, I've heard they do a good job, and theres no waiting.....

My 9 year old daughter has to have them done every 3 months or so after a facial injury, its ******* miserable, she's mortally scared of dentists now.

And yes, she has trouble everytime, post op pain, infections in at least one of the teeth each time, one leading to her needing hospital admission as it tracked into her sinuses, to boot she is allergic to penicillin, so they take sometime to clear up.
