Shootingman
Had a phone call at 10 this morning from South Wales Firearms, asking to speak to my son,"He's in work " I said. "What his mobile number" they asked & can he answer a call at work. This evening, when my son (who is 25yrs) came home he told me that the FAO had called him at work telling him to transfer the ownership of his shotgun to a RFD or another SGC holder immediately, & to contact the said FAO this evening to confirm this had been done. My son asked why, & was told that the HR dept where he works (the AA) had contacted the firearms dept to inform them that my son was on a downer & there were concerned for his safety. Yesterday, my son's manager, in passing at at work happen to say "how you doing Dave", whereas my son's tongue in cheek reply "having a bad day". It was an off the cuff remark, but even if he was having a bad day, so what, thats life, it happens. The manager, without asking my son about his "bad day",went & informed the Human Resources Dept, who did not approach my son to ask him about it,(if they had, they'd have found it was just a quirky remark, nothing wrong),but they immediately contacted the firearms department saying that in their opinion my son should not be in possesion of a shotgun. No one has seen or spoken to my son, but he has to transfer his shotgun to myself this evening, & phone the FAO when done, I have tried 3 times to contact the FAO to end this total farce, but he's not answering. What a total load of ****.

poontang
Doesn't make sense to me. Surely if the police were concerned that your son was intent on doing himself or others harm, the last thing they'd do is to inform him of their suspicions, and then tell him to access his gun to be able to give it to someone else? Crazy stuff indeed.
bedwards1966
That's a rather surprising situation to occur, never heard of anything like that happening. The FEO can't be that concerned however, as if he felt there was a major problem he could have got the certificate revoked immediately, and confiscated the guns. Sounds like a really special company he works for, anyone where who's anti shooting by any chance?
Shootingman
Yes, I am a member of BASC, will be phoning them 1st thing in morning, but what a load of s---, he works for the AA, perhaps I should change out membership to the RAC
Scully
Think I'd be getting in touch with HR and asking them what the hell they think they're playing at.Who are they to judge a persons psychiatric make-up on the passing remark of another employee? His shooting organisation should be informed of this;get the legal department at work on it.This sort of behaviour really annoys me.
southeastpete
Wow, I'd be contacting BASC and my workers Union. That could come under slander couldnt it? Shouldnt have to deal witht hat at work, hope it gets resolved positively ASAP

Mungler
Don't believe everything you read on a forum. How would an HR department know about someone's firearms ownership? How would they know who to phone or even what an FAO is or does? Even if having made a load of enquiries and they ultimately phoned plod, who would have the time, energy and inclination to make a report like that unless they themselves thought it serious enough to be worth doing? The chain of information looks like half a story gets passed on and halved again and so what's on here represents but a fraction of the whole true picture. There we go. poontang
I don't get it again. Why would the police ring you at home and ask to speak to your son when they'd just received a call from his workplace telling them he was at work, and having a bad day? Mungler
R u calling me a liar? That's the spirit. I am merely suggesting that the summary provided may not be entirely reflective of the totality of the situation. Tell you what though, if it's all straightforward and a simple misunderstanding then your son will have his ticket back and an apology from his work and the police before the weekend - won't he? Guest cookoff013
everyone can have a bad day, if it is true that, that has happened. i`d be on to BASC asap. i`d be waiting with tea and bicckies for the appology letter to hit the doormat. and i would think it un reasonable for it to be sent in the post. hand delivered, on a satin pillow. everyone has "duff" days, i`d also want an apology from HR
