benn
hi all need some advice just got some new permission for rabbit control which has to be done with nightvision, never used nightvision really, dont know wether to go down second hand route? budget is £600 max prefer half that.it will be used with rimfires and air gun.any suggestions are welcomed. cheers
al4x
look for a second hand pulsar for that is your best bet, the problem with NV is you do get what you pay for, most will do air rifle range but going up to rimfires starts to stretch the cheap versions. mick miller
Cobblers to the Pulsar, get a Ns200. Job done.
Bangon
NS200 better than pulsar
Brisa
I was initially thinking of the pulsar but the ns200 seems to get a lot of rave reviews. I have watched some videos of both in action and I prefer the idea of the rifle scope style as apposed to looking through the monitor. Did you take long to get used to the monitor Bangon? Bangon
Not at all, pretty easy really, Its just the case of holding your head up and looking at not through, no bother at all. In my opinion it is a brilliant idea. The screen is a bit bright but you can add coloured filters to lessen the brightness. I did sell my pulsar n550 to buy the ns200, so thats how much i like it. al4x
In my opinion it is a brilliant idea. I actually think its a **** idea your head is off the stock its like aiming a video game rather than shooting, its a bodge that works and is coming in at a decent cost compared to the more dedicated stuff. The reason for the pulsar is that it is at rimfire ranges where it is at home sub 100 yards its ideal, I'm undecided of their use on centerfires as personally the magnification isn't enough but at the budget they are just starting to appear about that level second hand. Bangon
Thats what i mean, its a case of looking at, rather than through a sight. Some like it some dont, I have used it on a 22lr and a 22 FAC Air, for bunnies sub 100 as you say, and I think its far better quality picture than the pulsar. The mag on the pulsar is **** even with the doubler on it.

Bazooka Joe
Ben, you really need to go out at night & try it, & if possible have something to compare it with....do you not have a mate with NV..?
luckytrigger
Tried the n550 didnt get on with it. As standard it doesnt have enough 'mag' you cant switch between rifles and the standard onboard i.r eats batteries. I bought an ns200 over six months ago and havnt looked back. Good kit for the money and great kit with a few tweaks .
houlsby
Iv only had a quick glance, but it looks like an ns200 can be built for under £80 with stuff from eBay. (Iv ordered all the gear to try it tbh.) Have a go if your budgets tight?
White Lodge
...the ns200, it looks like bits and pieces cobbled together and not secure in use. I only ever seem to see them put on air rifles as well..................hmmmm? Quite right IMO, I have the N550 with the IR torch and Dr Bob lens add-on and for sorting out rabbits with AA S400 it rocks, I will try it on the .22lr when it arrives. With the release of the N750 I wouldn't be surprised to see a few N550s up for sale or as 2nd hand trade ins. happyshooter
i use the ns200 both on my fac airguns and my rimfires it works well on all my guns, its easy to change from one gun to another it suits my range limits 150----200 yds it does what i requre of it, i also have another version of this type called the nite eye this is about half the price of the ns200 , its a bargain for the price and its performance is on par with the ns200 ,if you google nite eye there site will come up , also on youtube type in pied piper361 this is the guy who makes the nite eye --Karl ,you can see the nite eye in use. atb brian

Thanks for posting the link, I've joined the forum for that section. Some of the members there have made amazing NV set ups for a fraction of the price of a commercial set up. Plus they are happy to share info and post links to parts. Amazing threads on the subject. I'll be having a crack at one soon it looks a doddle!!!
