Rossi will be competitive, but, he will be No.2 rider when Lorenzo wins this years championship ( yes he will, he's got the all important consistency).

He's just going to have to deal with that. I suspect he will be back up to speed within 3 rounds, he may be a title challenger next year...

I also suspect that he may well end up a close second or even third to Pedrosa/Lorenzo. If they stay fit then I'd fancy a Lorenzo/Pedrosa title race with Rossi possibly getting between them if the mental stability isn't robust enough with either of the other two. It will be interesting to see Vale come into things as the underdog.

Great as he WAS I think he is past it now, :yp: Hayden has had the better of him all season, and on a bike rossi has been "developing"

Yamaha only wanted him because of the sponsorship money he brings, they have been without a major sponsor since he left.

Dovi has only been beating Crutchlow because of the factory brakes he has, Crutchlow cant afford them and tech3 wont buy them for either rider so dovi either got them himself or got his sponsor to buy them.

I think Crutchlow would have done ok on the Ducati,

Will be interesting to see how Bradley Smith does on the Tech3.

And how long before the "Wall" goes back up at Yamaha, Rossi Hasnt gone in as number 1, Last big payday for him,

Will be interesting to see what influence Audi's money makes at Ducati and if as expected BMW come into MotoGP in 2014

Some excellent comments and I agree with all that you have said...I think that Bradley Smith will be too slow, I don't mind if I'm proved wrong though.

rossi is without doubt the best rider ever (i can see arguments comming) the only exeption is no isle of man on his cv he is a world champ on 125/250/500 2 strokes/1000/900/800 the only downfall is his age and fitness at 31/32 is the motivation still there to take the extra risk or will he settle for 2nd or 3rd place next year i am pleased that we still have him going next year just need mr burgess to go with him

Rossi might be the best rider of this era, but the best rider ever? SMB Hailwood was the best rider of his era in the 60's as he rode on the track and the road.

Rossi was given the accolade as he won in every class, would it have been the same if he just rode 500cc then Moto GP?

don't forget rossi made that yamaha what Lorenzo is riding

So your saying Lorenzo is riding a bike thats been undeveloped for at least 18months?, he is doing ok then I guess

Rossi stopped developing that bike the moment he signed for Ducati

Give Lorenzo some credit!!

From the report at the weekend it seems the whole of Rossi's team are going with him to Yamaha and that was something he negotiated before agreeing to the move - so Gerry will be with him if that is correct. For all those who see him as being past it, just consider the amount of damage he has done to himself in the time he has been a rider and competitor and see if you could be even a tenth as competitive as he is and certainly will be on a bike he again feels able to steer and brake in the winning style he has. I agree with the point above about Mike Hailwood - I always thought he was one of the best from when I was a kid (not yesterday!) I reckon Rossie will give it at least one season and then possibly consider a move if all is not going well. I really appreciate the fun, risk, danger and amusement he has given us over the years though.

Nobody is saying how great I am or will be,

They are with Rossi,

He will do well, win races, finish on podiums but to say he will be as good as he once was, then I think they are being very optimistic.

The reasons you give above about injuries and the like will stop him running away with it.

He WAS a very special rider but knew his limitations, ie TT racing.

Today's youngsters are fearless, if Simoncelli hadn't died I think he would have been as if not more successful than Rossi in moto gp

He has signed a 2 year deal,

Don't think I am knocking him, I used to be a great fan of what he achieved in moto gp
