ROY
Right chaps opinions please, I have never really had a proper interview for a half decent job before and have one tomorrow!! So should i shave my beard and get a decent suit or just go in one of my cheapy shirts and trousers combo and leave me beard???
henry d
Tidy beard and wear suit, job done! Best wishes.
SittingBull
Depends on the job/profession but I would always try my hardest when it comes to an interview - nice suit, ironed shirt and tie. Obviously this might not be appropriate if you are going for an interview as a stripper.
Muddy Funker
First impressions mate. I'd go in a suit if it were a job for a bog cleaner. Shiny boots, shiny mind lol. Good luck.
ozzy518
Don't forget clean polished shoes . First minute or so of Interview is when u make an impression
steve_b_wales
As someone who has interviewed many people applying for jobs where I worked, I always 'said' that personality, and the skills they bring with them, is more important than the way the person dressed. I don't mean that I would have been happy if someone attended an interview wearing jeans and a T shirt, You can pick up a decent suit in Tesco's etc, without spending a fortune. As for the beard, as long as it's neat and tidy, then leave it. Good luck with your interview.
Thunderbird
Suit up man, dress for the job you want. CVs, letters of application and the interview process are still the same more or less as they have been for decades. It's a formal process unless you are specifically told not to dress up, and if it's a requirement that for some reason they prefer people not to, they'll tell you. GL. oscarsdad
Don't take this the wrong way, but make sure your hands and nails are spotless - no rabbit blood under your nails etc. I interviewed a bloke last year, he had a suit on but his nails were disgusting so he made a really bad impression. Marine1980
At 18st mate nobody would dare not give you the job! I would cover the tattoos up though as there not everyone's cup of tea! If you don't look right in a suit as not everybody does then I'd suggest just shirt and tie, don't try to be someone your not. And best of luck! guest1957
Much harder to be over-dressed than under-dressed in my experience. Bang the suit on and feel confident as you walk into the room.
RED BEARD
suit or shirt and tie, just tidy the beard up (anybody that knows me will laugh at me saying that, mines a right mess!) and cover the ink as some folk will right you off straight away for them. Billy.
Aside from the clobber, always have a good question to ask at the end. Never use your last question to ask about holiday allowance/lunch breaks/working hours. A good question to ask would be (given the right job, or if it's not been covered) "What would you expect me to achieve within my initial 60-90 days?" I'll dig out some docs for you to read. I send them to all my candidates. Oh and depending on the interviewer and their social activities, see if they're on LinkedIn. You may find a common interest between the two of you. Back to the clobber - I went to an interview last week and did Chinos, posh jacket, white shirt and burgundy jumper. It's down to who is interviewing you. My interview was for a tailoring company, so I'd rather impress with some seasonal gear than a suit which doesn't fit..! Edited October 15, 2012 by Billy. ROY
Thanks for all the advice chaps am off to Bilgewater this morning to grab a suit, haircut on the way home!!!
NickS
Good luck! Given the job involves dealing with strangers, if you feel nervous during the interview (entirely normal), don't try to explain it away - breath steadily and let it pass. If you still want the job at the end of the interview, tell them. Enthusiasm and willingness go a long way. Hope it goes well Nick
Chris Bb
Never use your last question to ask about holiday allowance/lunch breaks/working hours. I interiewed a chap for a managerial job on a ship. About his only question was, "What time does the bar open?" No, he didn't get the job. Billy.
I had an interview at Ikea. "Build a chair and take a seat" Said the interviewer as I walked into the room. Oh and I was asked by an interviewer: "What are your strengths?" "I'm not a good listener" Edited October 16, 2012 by Billy.
