sitsinhedges
Was talking to a farmer when I took his xmas box round and he was expecting a huge amount of crows to be hitting his newly drilled wheat as soon as it sprouts due to it being the only drilling around that area. He wants me to have a bash at them then but I was wondering if I managed to shoot a few whether it was still acceptable to hang up a few dead birds on sticks to keep the rest away from the field? Hamster
The last time I saw any hung like that was at least 15 years ago and they weren't in plain view of the public. Personally think it's a little insensitive.
bi9johnny
Would think it depends how remote the area is. I knew a lad who always had a gibbett tree on a caravan park, didn't make him popular even if he was the owners son
slingshooter
I always hang them on the barbed wire fence if the Farmer wants the field not to be visited by any more crows. Works for me.WORKS FOR THE FARMER......
30-6
Years ago a farmer asked me to do this, so as the field was out of sight of humans i tied about 15 out like a washing line so a long length. Went back the next day to see if it was effective, the sticks each end were at least 3 foot long. Somehow a fox or whatever had pulled the lot down the field and somehow managed to get one stick through the sheep fencing into the next field but the other was stuck in the wire with every bird gone. So for me not effective.
utectok
I always put then on a barded fence on one farm as the farmer expects it of me although I think it has little deterrent effect ?
sitsinhedges
Maybe if I do it, if I manage to shoot some, I'll add a letter of contrition and a couple of copies of the Guardian for the yogurt knitters who are out for their ramble

GingerCat
Works with pigeons on mums veg garden, hung upside down they won't come near but I'm not sure if its because the cat spends hours trying to get it.....either way the veg is left in piece. caeser
The farmers I know still have them hung up on sticks with their wings extended, and soaked in diesel to keep the foxes off them. I always drop off a load for them.

PLH1966
They still do it in these parts, I always leave the odd bird or bunny behind just for the benefit of my farmers - so they know I'm on with looking after their land
