Is this still acceptable?

Was talking to a farmer when I took his xmas box round and he was expecting a huge amount of crows to be hitting his newly drilled wheat as soon as it sprouts due to it being the only drilling around that area. He wants me to have a bash at them then but I was wondering if I managed to shoot a few whether it was still acceptable to hang up a few dead birds on sticks to keep the rest away from the field?

Years ago a farmer asked me to do this, so as the field was out of sight of humans i tied about 15 out like a washing line so a long length. Went back the next day to see if it was effective, the sticks each end were at least 3 foot long. Somehow a fox or whatever had pulled the lot down the field and somehow managed to get one stick through the sheep fencing into the next field but the other was stuck in the wire with every bird gone.

So for me not effective.
