aris
http://www.hollandandholland.com/royaldouble.php What exactly do you get which warrants this price, besides the kudos and prestige of the label? Ok, it is bespoke and hand made but still......
EdSolomons
More of an investment than anything! If you go and see the man hours put into each gun by skilled craftsmen you will soon se where the price comes from. Add on a bit of margin and there's your dinner! Catweazle
You get months of skilled labour as well as know-how built up over centuries. It won't actually shoot better than a £3000 gun, but that's like saying the Mona Lisa is no better at covering a stain on the wall than a print from Argos. If you won the lottery big, wouldn't you want one ? PS. It's a rifle. Edited January 13, 2013 by Catweazle
aris
I can understand paying for a piece of functional art - which sounds like what this is. I don't know if I would buy one with a lottery win. I'm a fairly low key, status neutral person. Its like asking why you pay more for a Browning than a Baikal Not really - there is a 5-10 times price differential here. Not a 100x difference :-)
fenboy
Its not a shotgun , its a double rifle , still chuffing expensive though !

fortune
If you look on the left of the web page then you will notice that the price is FROM £99,000. That is the Baikal version there.
HDAV
Rolls royce vs mondeo................ TBH you can have a hand built hand engraved gun for a lot less. But doesnt carry the name....... http://www.piotti.com/prodotti/modello-sovrapposto-tipo-boss/?pid=92 (Have held one of these stunning balance) http://www.bossguns.co.uk/newguns.asp (you would think with a range starting at £67k they could manage a better website!) http://www.purdey.com/guns-rifles/new-guns-for-sale/ http://www.bywellshootingground.co.uk/gunroom/shotguns/beretta_so6_eell_pair_new_ http://www.wwgreener.com/page3.html
ChrisAsh
I guess if you have a wage of £1 mill or more PA what do you spend it on after the house, boat and car plus trinkets and shoes for the lady I doubt if they are an investment though in real terms, agreed the old ones were but why have secondhand at that price range

ddanby111
Thing with these guns is a lot of the money you are paying is because they fit the gun to you precisely .... It's how you throw the Hun up to the pattern you want.... And people think they are a investment.... I wouldn't want some one else's Armani cut suit if it doesn't fit me.... It might be a great name and I can appreciate the man hours and skill as I've seen em made, but if it don't fit it and worth a s@@t

libs
Having had a little bit to do with that brand I can assure you that these guns are an absolute beauty to behold. The detail in the hand engraved metalwork and the crispness of the action are unlike anything else. 400 man hours goes into the woodwork alone and only master craftsman with years of experience have anything to do with the construction. The service and aftercare one receives when purchasing a bespoke gun like that is also second to none. However, I think you need to be a special kind of rich to order something like this. kev56
Kin expensive, but if i could afford one why not.
EdSolomons
Get the right man to engrave it, and it can be a very very good investment. Wood can be re bent if needs be, and gun fit is not an exact science so close enough will be good enough if you were to sell on.
