243 moderator

just a quick one, about to get a tikka m595 243 would like to know which would be the best moderator to get pound for pound without braking the bank, have had a look and it seems theres aload out there and could do with a pointer or two.many thank,

thanks cockercas thats what i had in my mind, just had to get some feed back from other hunters to make sure i didnt waste my money on some thing that was over priced for what it did,when a cheaper one does the same job.thanks again happy shooting

Spartan thirdeye tactical on my a bolt . It's about half the size of a t8 and in my opinion a lot quieter . Fully stripable for cleaning just paid £220 for mine

Do you want an over the barrel type or would you be happy with a muzzle mounted mod? There's some amazingly lightweight muzzle mounted mods available at similar cost to a T8 for instance that are as quiet and also wouldn't require any extra work sorting the bushing out for mounting. If you like the lightweight option, for instance if you're mainly on foot (and if you're impatient like me) then it might be the way to go.

hi there stokie cant say i have heard of that one, will have to look into that ,you say itis stripable does that mean the t8 does not stip down?you say its half the size,is this because its not a over barrel type?have you done a head to head test against a t8? as you say it is a lot quieter all be it your opinion.thanks for the input

I would say the Wildcat predator 8, same price as the T8 and same sound reduction only lighter and stippable

muzzle mounted would be no problem to me want i want is a mod that works in as much it is as quiet as it can be, which is the hole point of fitting one at the end of the day.thanks for your thoughts gregthegreat

Mate has got t8 on his and yes we both agree mine is much quieter and no they aren't strippable. The thirdeye is over barrel and adds about 70mm in length

ive got a t8 on a .243 seems to work well i think one that strips down would be better, but certainly works either way .

There is a strong argument that the T8 is the benchmark but life doesn't stand still, and whatever happened to the Stainless T8, is that out there or has it died?

 

For OVERALL performance, sound reduction, price, size, weight, flexibility, stripability, etc., then personally I think the Predator 8 COMPACT wins hands down on a .243.

 

There are a couple of slightly cheaper mods, there are a couple of slightly lighter mods and there are a couple of SLIGHTLY better sound reduction mods, but there are plenty of much more expensive and less flexible or well made mods!

 

But then again, I run the P8 Compact on all my centrefires!

I have not used on myself as the moderator on my .243 is custom made but maybe the DM80 would be worth thinking about. I am led to believe that they are very good build quality, efficient, stripable, fairly light weight and will not break the bank!

I have a Wildcat Predator on my 243. Relatively easy to strip and clean and does the job well for me

thank you all for the replies, i did think there was going to be many veiws of what people in their mind thought was the best mod.it looks like it comes down to about 4 maybe 5 in the mix ,thats helped me alot,thanks one and all

The Roedale ones are now available from Sportsman Gun center, they are very light and easy to strip and clean. I have never used one on a 243 but on my 308 it makes a massive difference.

My mate has got a Hardy Gen 4 on his .243 and it is by far the best moderator i have seen! light weight at 290 grams, only 80mm in front of barrel, 40mm in diameter and has a built in muzzle break! Also to my ears just as quiet as a T8!

Sorry to jump in... but any views on the Sonic 45 (as offered with the Howa package) would be appreciated. I have one on my recently bought .243 Howa but as it's the first one I've used I'm in no position to compare it to others. I'd just be interested in comments - good or bad.
