cci quiets and ferrals

Recommended Posts

I'm not easy with the segmented subs, the bullet breaks up toooooo easily for my liking, so, as long as it is the same bullet and they group, these lower powered Quiets may be useful in some situations. :good:

I'll have to track down a box and give them a try, what sort of money are we talking about?!

:good:

What is the weight of the actual bullet and how much energy or speed in relation to the bullet weight so I might work this out? Actual if possible not box data if anyone has these facts. just looked on CCI web page 40 grn round nose 710 fps at muzzle, 45 ft lb (36 ft lb at 100yds) long rifle case size 1.5" high at 25yds gives 50 yds Zero. seems a lot of Oomph! for ferals indoors? maybe shooting squizzers out of trees like I was thinking might be a bad plan :sad1:

as kent said they are 40grain 45 ft lb doing 710 fps,

i found with my winnies with a zero at 60 yards the quiets are good at 30 yards but start to drop off quickly,

i did a thread a while back on accuracy i find them very good at 30 yard they are bullet on bullet unlike the cb caps i tried a while back,

as for holes in the roof i only heard one go through pigeon and hit roof after metel roof and didn't see a hole in it and as for the farmer being after me they were shot on the farm where i work and he asked me to shoot them so any damage then his fault hehe i would recommend them to anyone,

Dekers how far are you from Bedford if you not too far i may be able to get a box to you,

price i am not sure as i got 300 of these and 300 winnies and 500 hmr only looked at final bill sorry

Cheers, I'm in Reading, Thomas Turners has gone now so I'll need to hunt around, a couple to try though not far away, just the same if you are anywhere near at any time soon I'd be more than happy to take a box off your hands and make you a coffee!:good:

  • 2 weeks later...

Nice bit of info. Especially as i have some rats to deal with in a barn.

Alas, after phoning my nearest 2 dealers, 1 had never heard of them, but would see if he could get hold of some, failing that he had some CCI CB's. The other said "they're new so not out yet"......

Spoke to Malmo earlier in the week they aint even on the newly issued trade list. bought per 1000 they are £33, will try some out of interest but only when I can get a few together to split. I thinks they are a bit too much for rats in a barn or ferals most of the time 50ft lb from a 40grn bullet is going to go a long way and do a fair bit of bouncing about I recon. open ground in the middle of know were they might be ok shot upwards at steep angles?

Kent the barns in question are 110 yards by 60 yards where we rear our xmas turkeys not your average barn with concrete walls and thick tin roof

you are responsible for assessing your own safety, the comment about rat shooting in buildings scared me a little more I must admit

Well i took my Anschutz .22 out today to check zero and to do some paper punching. As not really used it at all.

Put a box of winchester subsonic threw it and zero'd a treat. Very impressed.

I had some cci Quiets to try as well. And i have to say my god there quiet i was amazed. The difference is pretty big imo. Didn't affect zero either just as long as I kept distances sensible. As Colin said they do drop off quick.

So i went and picked 5 boxes up. Fantastic bit of kit can see me getting threw fair few of these.

Cheers Compo.

No joy with the quiets, so had to go with a box of 100 CCI CB's for £10.00. They were terrible in my CZ 452! All over the place in the grouping! And it was only at 25 yards, (The length of the grain store). checked mounts were tight, pulled the bore snake through a few times but still no better.

The best group was around 1 1/2"! I thought i'd try a few of my CCI segmented subs. 3 rounds through the bull.

Clearly the CB's don't suit my gun! What a p*****! :(

I decided i'd use the sub segs instead, but with alot of caution. The barns brick construction anyhow with what looks to be very thick corrigated asbestos! As it turns out i only saw the one rat in the barn, and christ was it big! The CCI segmented subs done the job a treat and not a sound of ricochet! I was well impressed. For one shot anyhow.....
