jamiedenny
hi all, back after the great house move of 2012 and ready to start shooting again. i am having my inspection by my new fao and i have begun to question the way i have installed the cabinet. due to a high and much prized skirting board the cabinet is wall mounted (exterior wall) but is off the ground by about 3 inches. i have tried to search for the answer but no luck so if anyone can let me know if this is widly stupid and i should re-consider that would be great. cheers ears
Essex Keeper
As long as its bolted flat to the wall so you can put it on top of the skirting ,ie sit it on a block then bolt it flat to the wall
hedd-wyn
Or you could've put a plank behind the cabinet, drilled through the holes and then anchor bolted, so that the cabinet was flush with the skirting.
washerboy
mine is above the skirting, my fao viewed were it was going before i bolted it on and he said it was fine .
Paddy Galore!
mine too, i just boxed in underneath and fitted skirting board to suit.
jamiedenny
cool, thanks peeps planned to box in around the bottom anyway, the wall will move before the cabinet moves so i was personnaly happy but you know how it is meeting a new fao and starting a new relationship. thanks
team tractor
I just put a new one in my daughters wardrobe after cutting the back out and putting 6 rawl bolts through the back and screwing down . I like them hidden
washerboy
Mine is going behind wardrobe doors, chippy friend is building me one
neil3728
Mine is bolter horizontal about a foot in the air, so the door can swing down and not hit the floor. No problem as long as its bolted secure to an outside, wall no one cared.
jamiedenny
good stuff, I'll be hanging a frame and doors around which to be honest is more because SWMBO has kindly requested that the horrible grey thing does not match the shibby chic interior. I personally like the industrial look :-)
Lord Geordie
I went overboard! I have cut a section of the skirting away and mounted the cabinet in the corner. Bolted 4 in the back 4 in the side and 2 in the floor. Second cabinet is inside a big metal locker and bolted straight through the back into the wall and bolted with coach bolts through the bottom. jackinbox99
As others have said, FEO`s have no problems with it being mounted above the skirting board. Mine was happy.
bunnykiller
My feo (northumbria) wanted mine boxed in at the bottom with something strong, fence post or brick. didnt pass it till this was done and re-inspected.
goodo123
Can't understand this, yes they could potentialy lever it against the floor but wouldn't this be a pure pita and the floor would give? (unless concrete)
Northamptonclay
Concrete floor and a jack the bolts would soon shear

Marc Z
I hope no-one minds me jumping on the back of this, but I just moved and installed my cabinet. About to contact my feo to let him know (first thing tomorrow). Only trouble I have is its a rental property so I can't mess it about. I've asked permission of course, but trouble is all my exterior walls are old and wobbly. I've done my best, installed it in a fitted wardrobe and it's gone in solid, but there's some gaps behind due to the wobbly wall. Do we think this is ok? Down to the individual I guess, but: My cabinet was flush most of the way round but with a 5mm gap in places due to the walls. I fitted washers behind any bolt holes that were not flush and then ran a bead of decorators caulk all the way round. FEO even commented on how neat it was installed If it looks right, it probably is
