Reabrook
I make no secret of the fact I have taken this from another forum but it is information we should all be aware of. Registration took me less than a minute. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XPZv_8dABfU&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DXPZv_8dABfU%26feature%3Dplayer_embedded&gl=GB Edited February 8, 2013 by Reabrook

Beretta06
I'm pretty sure 999 does the same - but only within the UK. The 112 number isn't new though, it was on the side of our fire engines way back in 1994.
figgy
I have been told in the past by using 112 they can pin point your location straight away, not so with 999. Figgy
Beretta06
I think I will call both, just to be sure :-)

HDAV
Hmmmm http://www.sos112.info/uk.htm Calls to 112 are the same as 999 handle by a phone company operator...... http://cms.walsall.gov.uk/index/ice_campaign_in_case_of_emergency.htm is a good idea! Especially on smart phones. Edited February 8, 2013 by HDAV

Yorkhawk67
When I did my first responder training I was told that 112 was different to 999 and you could get through with it just about anywhere anytime.
Passionforangling
I must admit I'd never heard of this but have just Googled 112 and found out all about it. Will definitely register......seems sensible for anyone who goes out in the wilds (especially alone) shooting, fishing, climbing etc
foggy011983
Just registered. I've needed to contact emergency services in the past and had no signal. If this helps then that would be great in any future emergencies.
keeper sam
Think this is a vital thing to do especially if you have to cross deep patches of mud like me to get to your shooting ground

nic
also works if you dial 911 had to be brought in for the TV addicts who hadn't realised that the US is a different country 112 has been the european number for at least 35 years to my knowledge the only difference may be the GPS location (i am not certain) as with all the emergency numbers 999/112/911 the phone features activate
Chr15j
I had a crash in 1999 and called 112, no answer so soaked 999 immediate answer
Sussexboy
Just registered. I've needed to contact emergency services in the past and had no signal. If this helps then that would be great in any future emergencies. Just a thought, if you have no signal how are you going to dial 112 and be connected to anybody at all? If you have no signal you cannot connect.

LondonLuke
Just a thought, if you have no signal how are you going to dial 112 and be connected to anybody at all? If you have no signal you cannot connect. Watch the video It explains that it will hunt all networks for a signal not only your own
hedge
The whole point of 112 in the early days was that you didn't need a SIM card in the phone as the phone would simply jump on the first avail network and use that. The phones would also let you dial 112 even if the keylock was on (this was all before modern phones with touchscreens and GPS). Admittedly there would still need to be some sort of network coverage but is did increase your chances of getting through.
