mad1
I think the American is a stock style .. And the varmint is a type of barrel ? So you prob could get different combo

bicykillgaz
The standard barreled 'american' has 2 action bolts where as the varmint barreled one has one action bolt and a dovetailed barrel lug. The varmint is free floated too, not sure if the American is.
Muddy Funker
Another slight difference is chequering, the varmint doesn't have any on the fore end. I think the American uses better grade wood also.

the enigma
I think I remember reading somewhere that some Varmints had "American" stamped on the action. As above, the America will have better wood, chequering and a thin, plastic butt plate. The Varmint has a plainer stock, with a wider fore end and a much thicker butt pad. kenj
I'm late to a thread again, must keep up! Just got my handbook out and it says, Varmint - Heavy barrel, mass reduced butt plate, without fixed sights. Got the HMR out and it says CZ 452 - 2E ZKM AMERICAN. Mine has a 16 inch barrel. Elmer Fudd 1
the american is the same action and barrel as the silhouette the varmint has the same action but a heavier barrel this barrel cannot be found on the american or any other model that the 452 varmint and a similar heavy barrel being different only in the way that it does not taper, on the 455 varmint, thumbhole varmint, evolution and the thumbhole varmint ssc the american is a rifle with a sporter barrel. if it has a varmint barrel than it is a varmint or has had a custom barrel mad and the stock adapted to float the new barrel. however i highly doubt the later
al4x
The one in my cabinet says that's wrong elmer. It's stamped American and has a heavy barrel, no custom barrel

Like I sad, nothing stands still and just what is an American or Varmint these days, I suspect we could all put up a lot of pics that show different things, for example, this is my CZ "American"!
