TJ91 Posted March 30, 2013 Report Share Posted March 30, 2013 Farmer asked me to go shoot crows on a field recently drilled with oats, finished work early so got out ther, banged up a hide with plenty natural cover and waited, I noticed a strong pigeon flightline across the middle of the field so I grabbed the 6fuds from the car and placed them out in a random pattern. The pigeons (although not feeding on the drilling) were suicidal, commuting to the decoys and gliding in perfect. I ended the day with 40pigeons and 21crows. The 'sometimes I don't care' bit....I shot very poor, should of had double (atleast), used well over 100cartridges...but I really didn't and still don't care about the misses and the cost...it was great sport and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it! This is especially true when wildfowling, because if you don't shoot straight you'll come home with an empty bag more often than not. So for me, cartridge to kill ratio does matter. Very true, When I shoot clays I like to get a good hit ratio because everybody is watching and no one wants to look like a *****, but when im out in the hide , mostly on my own I just blast away at birds , I dont even give a thought to hit ratios, as long as Im scaring the hell out of the pigeons and knocking a few down the farmer is always pleased that I made the effort, Im always competative with others but never with myself.
