First bag out on my own.

First successful shoot on my own, after my initiation with Pigeonblasterian (who taught me all I now know!).I have had a few goes when the pigeons just would not decoy. Drove down my permission this morning about 10.00 o'clock, intending to go to a field with OSR, but saw about 100 or so on a newly drilled barley field, so stopped there instead. They all flew off of course, as soon as I started carrying my kit across the field, but I set up, (using my new umbrella and rear screen for the first time!), then they started dropping in in small numbers. I just put decoys out, no rotary (as the battery was flat from the last time  ), but I set the arms from the rotary up with two foam decoys , pushed into the ground at a shallow angle as 'bouncers'. The pigeons dropped in in small numbers, no large flocks, but twos, threes etc. Had to break off to go home after a couple of hours, as the grand-kids had turned up to get their Easter eggs, (we didn't see them last weekend), then went back about 1.30, and stayed 'till 5.00. Ended up with a total bag of 16, so well chuffed for my first (successful) solo outing! :good:post-62540-0-74975600-1365271213_thumb.jpgpost-62540-0-06996800-1365271230_thumb.jpg

Managed one about 40 yards out, then missed one at 20!!! Also a clean kill on one flying past at right angles, dropped it stone dead and it fell two feet short of landing in a water filled dyke - phew!

Well done Mike i bet your chuffed with yourself.

At least you have pigeons showing an interest.

Keep at them and all the best for tomorrow. :good:

Thanks Ian!

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments! Went to the same spot today, about 30 pigeon and a few crows on arrival, not quite as sunny as yesterday, but otherwise very similar weather. Set up in the same spot, decoys as yesterday, and then waited, and waited and waited. Saw just 3 pigeons, about 200 yards away at the far side side of the field. Not one ever came within range! What a difference to yesterday - thank goodness I got that one in. No pigeons flying overhead, no flocks in the distance, nothing. Very disappointing... Packed up mid-afternoon, came home and breasted out yesterday's bag. Might see if I can fit in a roost-shoot one evening now it's a little lighter when I get home from work...
