al4x
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-shropshire-22063580 sounds like a tragic but avoidable accident
BangBangNik
Can only comment on what I have read but it seems some very simple gun safety would have avoided this incident. Very tragic.
oscarsdad
Very tragic and if it was what has been reported a negligent discharge whilst crossing a hazard then very very avoidable. I am sure nothing could be said or done to make to guy at fault feel any worse though.
Frenchieboy
On the face of it and from what little information there is on the link it seems like a very tragic and avoidable accident. My thoughts go out to the mans family for their sad loss!

pigeonblasterian
It just shows that you can never be too careful when handling a shotgun.
Reece
We don't have all the facts yet, but it appears to have been a tragic accident. RIP. But how long before the antis catch wind of it and celebrate his death?

pontbeck
It said " gunshot " no reference to what type of gun but at 21.30 it was more likely to be a rifle, not many folk out shooting rabbits with a shotgun in the dark

aris
The two men were understood to be passing from one field into another when the accident happened. Does this give a clue as to the cause? Either they were shot by someone else, or perhaps they were crossing a fence or gate unsafely?
minghis
Tragic whatever the circumstances, and a sobering realisation that what we do can be and is very much deadly. I go out with a friend regularly, both shooting the same land. The real danger seems to be when climbing over stiles/gates etc. while together. On many occasions you never realise where the barrel ends up pointing until a You cannot be too cautious, don't just rely on the safety - I eject the round in the chamber and so does he, it's the best way and only takes a second or two. There is NO mention of a Shotgun in either article. Lets not jump to any conclusions. Look, I'm not having a go, but you have made an assumption, this is how rumours start, before we know it he will have been shot with a High Powered Assault rifle whilst on a secret Al Qaeda training program! kent
Just think on guys, when crossing an obstacle or crossing difficult ground- remove the round, shotgun or rifle. My old FEO dealt with a quite separate guy who shot his mate crossing a fence. Semi auto and because the rear stud gave way he tied the sling to his trigger guard resulting in a dead mate. I must admit, when out lamping with a mate one crosses without any gun then the gun or guns are then passed loaded pointing skywards with clear instruction each time they are loaded, this is not the safest way though- we should unload! Blunderbust
R.I.P this is very sad to hear. My thoughts are with both his family and his shooting buddy, the poor guy has to live with this for the rest of his life.
