Michaeli
Hi guys I’m looking at buying a new shotgun. I want to use it for clays / Pigeon and a walk/stand pheasant syndicate. I have a budget of around £700 but do I buy a good solid over and under and use it for everything Or Do I buy a good (£400-£500) over and under for clays and pigeons and a nice (£200-£300) side by side or o/u game gun. If I buy one what would be best to look out for? Sporter, Field or Game. Hope your guys can help. Many thanks Michael Edited April 28, 2013 by Michaeli
Albert 888
o/u 28" 3"chamber steel proof sporter with multi chokes. of any make that fits you and feels right. I like browning and miroku, but wouldnt say no to a beretta. The gun mentioned will cover you for most things ,clays, rough, driven, decoying and wildfowling. # Ps I would like one gun only but didn't understand when I bought my first. Beware of the man with one gun. Happy hunting.
welshwarrior
I would buy one good o/u sporter to use for everything learn to shoot it well as opposed to getting used to 2 different guns. £700 will get you a Beretta or Miroku or Browning and will look after you well. oscarsdad
Buy my Winchester 101 sporter which is for sale on here then get a £200 SxS for game shooting...you don't want to be lugging a heavy clay gun around when out game shooting. Thunderbird
I wouldn't personally get a Sporter unless I was looking to do (and stay doing) a lot of clays. I once used my Beretta SP Sporter in a pigeon hide on a 100+ day and it was a pain in the proverbial. Heavy, the ejectors were a pain, and I would have much rather had my SxS or Remi 1100 that day. Gordon R
The Winchester mentioned above would be a good place to start. It would still leave enough for a decent SBS for game.
al4x
Best answer is the single gun for clays and game decent 28" o/u and you won't go far wrong. If you then want a knock about gun buy an auto
bostonmick
I would say one gun the best you can afford a 30 inch spotter If you can't hit all types with one gun then it is not right for you.as for weight unless you are very feeble the extra few ounces of a spotter should not be a major problem.keep switching guns will lead to inconsistency.good luck Should say sporter keyboard to small. Michaeli
Cheers guys for all your help For now I have gone with one gun. I have gone with a bettinsoli diamond x grade about 12 months old and only had about 250 shots through it. The main thing is if fits me and should do every thing I want it to do. Thanks Michael
