huffhuff
Define 'forum moderator'...
Dunkield
Apparently.... "A forum moderator oversees the communication activity of an Internet forum. He monitors the interchange of contributors and makes decisions regarding content and the direction of threads. Moving discussions from one section to another to keep topics organized is also a common job for a forum moderator. If the tone of a forum becomes hostile or starts to move in the direction of personal attacks, the forum moderator usually has the discretion to lock the discussion to prevent heated, interchanges. He may also be able to hide discussions he deems unworthy of further discussion. Conversely, topics he feels deserve further examination can be posted indefinitely by the moderator even if they garner no comments. Moderator duties are as diverse as the forum topics themselves. Some moderators are virtually invisible; they surface only when situations arise that do not seem likely to resolve themselves. Other forum moderators are always there, ready to intercede at the smallest hint of discourse. Public forum moderators often have to enforce many rules of conduct and decorum, as public contributors tend to communicate without abandon, which can sometimes upset other commenters. Private forums linked to a website or group often operate a bit differently. The forum moderator is likely to be familiar with the members, and may be more lax in enforcing rules if he is aware of bantering members and their tones. Standards differ greatly in forums, and newcomers are advised to post with caution until they get the general feel of the forum's atmosphere. Regardless of the forum topic or ambiance, most prohibit the exchange of illegal or copyrighted materials and pornography and many shun swearing or using inappropriate language or images. Moderators are sometimes encouraged to join in discussions, especially if they have expert experience or advice to contribute. Other forums prefer their moderators to remain totally objective and mainly serve as impartial enforcers. Occasionally a forum moderator will pose as a contributor to steer a discussion in another direction or offer input without fear of posing a conflict of interest. In addition to acting as the parent or guardian of forum content, forum moderators are also responsible for maintaining the integrity of the forum in other ways. This requires knowledge of HTML and acuity at moving, merging, adding, and deleting text, graphics, and links. Contributors will often ask moderators to assist them with technical problems with site access and posting. Supplementary duties of a forum moderator may include relocating discussions to more appropriate sections, closing or locking threads based on dwindling interest or lack of recent activity, editing posts for clarity or content, and deleting threads. Thread deletion can either be temporary or permanent, depending on the wishes of the forum moderator. If an abusive contributor refuses to cease unacceptable behaviour, the forum moderator usually has the discretion to ban the user. If the offender continues to post and eludes the ban, the moderator may opt to access the user's IP address. This enables the moderator to ban the address instead of banning the user by name or email address"

NickS
It depends which way the wind is blowing - the broad white strike should be uppermost on the hoist (the edge adjoining the staff or pole) and the thin white stripe uppermost towards the fly. Chr15j
I agree daybreak is tripe, stumbled upon its shameful broadcast whilst channel surfing after having been up all night with my 10 week old twins. Re the flag, ITV should not have made such a fundamental error and it is unforgivable. I don't mind when Joe bloggs accidentally hangs his flag wrong because you know he doesn't know better and I applaud him for flying it anyway. I am proud of our flag and its a shame apathy is so strong, even here. As a point if note, in many countries desecrating the nations flag (including hanging it incorrectly) is a major crime and punishable by death! That's national pride, whilst a little extreme as a punishment perhaps we should take it ( national pride) a little more seriously

That's national pride, whilst a little extreme as a punishment perhaps we should take it ( national pride) a little more seriously A little story of people getting all het up over a flag. When i was one of Her Majesty's Royal Engineers i was sent to an infantry camp to pick up some kit and after loading it me and my mucker were driving out of the camp and we heard a bugle in the distance, we thought nothing about it until the barrier went down and this little hitler of a provost sgt ripped open my door, poked a stick in my chest and told me to get out.I got out and he was screaming in my face that hadn't i heard the bugle,i answered i had but didn't know what it was for,he continued to rant about the flag being lowered and paying respect to the colours on said flag,he was going very red and then screamed don't you have any colours on your flag. Well this is where it all went wrong, i pointed out that Royal Engineers flags did not have the colours on them,he went mental and was screaming that all flags had colours on them, being the cheeky sapper i was i then pointed out that we had been in every major battle the Army had ever fought and we had so many colours that we couldn't fit them on one flag let alone a dozen. I spent the next hour in the guard room, being threatened with all sorts of insubordination charges by this sgt until his duty Officer came in,the sgt told the Officer how i was obviously lying to save my skin for not stopping to respect the flag, and my bull story was total rubbish. The look on his face as this officer told him that he had been attached to the Engineers and what i said was true, and that Sappers were the salt of the earth. I left the guard room and couldn't help but wink at the sgt on the way out,i honestly thought the veins in his neck would pop.

FalconFN
National pride comes in many forms and flag orientation isn't high on my list. ITV, you are forgiven for the flag, but don't think I'll let you off Jeremy Kyle - that enormous pile of brown donkey eggs is truly unforgivable.
