rtaylor
I'm looking to get a Redfield scope for my .243. Having looked on American ebay they are literally half the price over here, brand new, lifetime warranty etc. Can anyone recommend a place to buy scopes from America? And if anyone has done it roughly how much the shipping costs will be? Cheers
FalconFN
Check out how much import duty you will have to pay first, it could wipe out any savings you will have made.
casts_by_fly
if you find a place willing to ship (many will not) then figure $25-$35 for shipping. Then convert the price of the scope plus shipping to pounds and add 20% VAT. then ad another £15 for handling fees from parcel force. It might still be cheaper, but it might not. Unless you're talking about higher dollar items, the hassle of doing it that way doesn't usually add up. certainly not for a single budget item. thanks rick
al4x
the other thing is if you do have an issue and need to return it do you have to send it to the USA. Personally if I knew someone going over who could bring it back and avoid the postage and customs charges etc it would be worth a punt but by the time you've paid all that you will be getting towards the cost of buying one over here. rtaylor
Still going to be about £100 cheeper with all the shipping, fees etc. I agree getting someone to buy it over there is the best way, just need to find a mate going over that way. phaedra1106
I used http://www.4scopes.com/ but picked up my Sightron when we went over to Florida. Why a Redfield?, the "Revolution" was pretty crappy and despite being owned by Leupold the quality is still not great, about on par with Barska etc. Edited June 14, 2013 by phaedra1106

Also it's within my budget. I can't afford or justify spending a huge amount. About £200 is my limit not including mounts. I have a 4-12x42 simmons at the moment and it's ok. Does the job, killed plenty with it. But I'd like a scope with a bigger optical lens for lamping , dawn/dusk stalking etc. I'm open to suggestions for that kind of money. al4x
Uttings or opticswarehouse are usually pretty good or depending on budget, I've bought a few scopes now from dodeer as have a fair few people and he is a top seller http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/251114-brand-new-scopes/

rtaylor
Looks like it would be about a £60 saving after shipping and tax. Not quite as cheap as I had hoped.

These are decent scopes for the price (at US prices) UK prices though like everything else in treasure island are ott.
jimmyb79
I use a Revolution on my hmr. True it's not as good as my Leupold VX-R but for the money it's spot on. If you're looking to import anything from the US have you looked at sites like MyUS etc? They provide a PO box address and ship to you. rtaylor
Just looked at MyUS. Scopes come under restricted tactical goods and they won't send them. Seems Amazed is on the money. Need to have a rethink. The Falcon scope looks good and has had some decent reviews. Anyone on here got any first hand experience?
casts_by_fly
The only legal restrictioon on scopes is night vision. It is perfectly fine to send a normal sporting scope. However, most don't know th law and aren't willing to take that chance. Rick
Alanl50
Nikon Prostaff 3-9X50 £199.99 is a damn good scope will be more than enough. UTTINGS Nikko stirling are also good with: Gameking - Nighteater and are centre fire rated and check out the LRX reticule (some are airgun rated you will need to check the model) You dont need a dustbin size scope to be effective or spend a fortune Dont be lured into scope snobbery they are adequate for the ranges you will need Alan
tweedledee
Falcon scopes are excellent but too heavy for a carry rifle
