rimfire4969
Anyone seen the american special services guy and his english wife, they get dropped into different places and have to survive, based on real life occurances. Then there is dual survival,an indian cultural guy and an ex marine. Then, you could watch doomsday preppers for when its all gone wrong and bear/ray are not there to help Think i watch to much tv Seen them all but it has to be Les Hiddens The Bush Tucker Man. Used to love his programe when i was younger. Think this afternoon i will watch a bit on Youtube starting with this one.
Big Al
I now give Bear a lot more respect since I heard he is heavily involved in the Scout movement. He is inspiring a generation to get off the Xbox and get outside.
johnbaz
I now give Bear a lot more respect since I heard he is heavily involved in the Scout movement. He is inspiring a generation to get off the Xbox and get outside. Strangely my opinion of the Grylls bloke dropped through the floor when I heard a tale about him and the Scouts... Bear Grylls is a patron of the scouts, he was being discussed on another forum (can't remember which it was) when a scout master told his tale, he thought it would be a good idea to contact Bear to come to his troupe and give a talk to the lads so he wrote a letter off to this patron of the boy scout movement and awaited a reply.... Bear was happy to come and give a talk to the troupe but his 'fee' was £25,000 *** he was there with his scout shirt, woddle and beret when he was meeting royalty but wouldn't speak to the kids unless he was given a big wedge of cash Give me Big Ray any day John.. NickP
I now give Bear a lot more respect since I heard he is heavily involved in the Scout movement. He is inspiring a generation to get off the Xbox and get outside.Very much agree with that, my 7 year old son can't get enough BG since he joined the beaver scouts a year a go, before then he wasn't interested Edit: just read the above fee post, not sure when but he was at a big jamboree as my scout lodge has a photo with him Who cares if the find a point to shoot is near a road, if the lava bridge is there its a program not real life, and makes it more interesting Edited June 24, 2013 by NickP
-Mongrel-
I didn't know that bit! That puts a new slant on things. If you take second hand hearsay at face value. Might want to hunt out the facts before accepting that at face value. I don't know either way incidentally, but suggest that it would have made The Sun and The Sport at the very least! I reckon that's cobblers - Someone telling you very big porkies there. Bear is Chief Scout and a very good one at that - Absolutely ludicrous to even think he would charge a scout group an appearance fee.... All very positive.
Milkfloat
The figure alone of 25K for an appearance tells me that it is a made up story. I expect that the story started out as 'we invited Bear to our scount group, but unfortunatley due to the huge numbers of requests he gets plus a clash with filming dates he was unable to attend', before going through many iterations until it got to the 25k version. Teal
Bear Grylls is actually a (distant) relation of mine, and I don't for one second believe that story is true. The OP might want to check his facts before writing a potentially highly defamatory comment about someone on the internet.
Gimlet
I don't believe it either. 25 grand to address a bunch of grubby kids in a shed when you could be hang gliding over Bhutan or something - Its not nearly enough. I wouldn't don a woggle and a pair of 1950s shorts for less than 30 K. Who do these scouts think they are?
rimfire4969
I have read his book and he has done some great stuff and has and continues to raise loads of cash for charities.

Will what, hunt out the facts or take hearsay at face value? I like him, I accept his shows are made for TV and maybe not quite what you think they are, but that's entertainment and he's definitely entertaining. Big Al
Will what, hunt out the facts or take hearsay at face value? . Sorry for the confusion. I meant I will do what you suggested - I will hunt out the facts. I hoped the rest of the post(s) I made show that I like the impact he is having on scouts, and am therefore predisposed to like the guy.
