Brown Sauce
Just a precautionary tale of my brush with the law. Having had a clean licence for the last 22 years of breaking most speed limits, I've just had 3 points and a £60.00 fine for doing 47 in a 30. My speed was increasing to join the 50 limit only 50 yards ahead, so that's my excuse. Now, I accept full responsibility for the offence, but the one thing I didn't realise is that speed camera vans can do you going away from them, on the opposite side of a dual carriageway. Hay hoe, time to start blaming the cash strapped police force, for profiteering!! Be warned!!!!!
overandunder2012
it was just your day to get done mate it comes to most of us at some point in life with all the cameras around these days you'd have to be a saint or not driving much to never get caught out. in london the yellow boxes is the one to be aware of. Mungler
I didn't realise is that speed camera vans can do you going away from them, on the opposite side of a dual carriageway. Nor me. I do however know first hand that a laser van on a motorway gantry can get you from 0.8 of a km away. That's not even a sporting chance when they are not visible to the naked eye. JonathanL
I think that it's the case that flashing cars approaching a speed trap can lead to you being done for obstruction of an officer in the execution of his duties. J.
Gordon R
Brown Sauce - fair play for taking it on the chin and not coming out with a million excuses. Anyone who says they have never broken a speed limit is almost certainly lying. It happens - sometimes people do it intentionally, many - it's just accidental. stubby
snap, had the NIP a few days ago, 60 in a 50 zone, and all my fault
mad68
At least you didnt get caught in the same place 2 years running
Sha Bu Le
Been snapped twice 36 and 34 in a 30 zone. As the speed excess was marginal and it was more than two years apart I got offered the option of a speed awareness course. Still cost £60 a go but you avoid the points and inevitable insurance hike. the pigeon man
If its your first affence don't you go on a speed awareness course ?
Mungler
If its your first affence don't you go on a speed awareness course ? Only if you are inside of (I think) 10 mph of the limit. So, 41 mph in a 30 mph and no you don't get offered it, 38 mph in a 30 mph and you should get offered it (once).

J. Quite right, there was a recent case in which a motorist was doing exactly that and a police car was coming towards him. Booked on the spot. Shame, as all this tends to lead towards, is further disrespect for our hard working police forces. IMHO

ukkat
Been done by the law a few times, caught doing 100 + in a 70, unmarked golf, however when he stopped me he did say that because i i did not try and scam him with 101 excuses (fair play you got me bang to rights,) he did me an SP50 3 points and £60 fine, i did not tell him a sob story, but said that i drove for a living and with no licence i would have no job. he was a nice guy, i was not being/driving stupid, road conditions were dry, clear visibality and no other road users ( 4:30 in the morning ) but i just count my self lucky that i got stopped by such a reasonable officer. kat. fat_jay
Just this morning paid my £84 and booked my speed awareness course, 37 in a 30, late for a cricket match, which got rained off after 45 overs!! Annoying but It was a fair cop Guv!!

I was clocked at 42 in a 30 and got a speed awareness course offer. I'm actually glad that I attended it as I did take a few things away from the course (including two pens, a note pad and a mug). I got zapped by a gatso that that was facing me. I wrongly assumed that they could not flash oncoming traffic and that it was set up to get the traffic in the oncoming lane. Epic assumption fail. delburt0
If I get done again I am going to ask for my license to be destroyed if it will save me from another driver awareness course :(
kdubya
so lets see go just over the top! get a speed awareness course, go say 40 in a 30 then its a straight fine and points, which equates to its not about speed awareness at all its about still taking money but not alienating you totally you against Plod after all surely its the faster drivers who need the course most is it not. Mm interesting I might have to be more careful then as I do tend to abuse the ones in London. So far if any did take forward pictures I think I'd have been in court by now

Gordon R
kdubya - fair point. It might be argued that the marginal speeders are worth trying to educate, whereas the OTT speeders are unlikely to benefit, so straight to punishment. BRNDL
I was once pulled over for speeding on my push bike in a 30 zone. Had a stern telling off. Then I was stopped for riding on the pavement with no lights at dusk and was presented with a £30.00 fine! The worlds gone mad!
