wannabe_keeper
Just invested in a pair for the coming season and wondered what the best way of looking after them is. After what I paid for them I want to try and look after them! Is there a spray or anything to maintain the rubber etc... Thanks in advance. figgy
Get some clear silicone tyre gel from halfrauds as I did. Apply it before going out and the muck falls off. Protects from uv rays and keeps rubber supple, a damn sight cheaper than the welly stuff, same product different application is all. White Lodge
I had a pair, they lasted years until I fell over and ripped them (and my shin) on a log. The next pair didn't last a twelve month before the zip fell apart, two year guarantee though. They do come with a small can of spray something. ack-ack
My last pair lasted 15 years and I never did anything to them. Had my non zippers nine years and im surprised they've lasted. Beating, bait digging, long winter walks, gardening, work, you name it. They are the nuts. I do nothing to maintain them other than keeping them clean, airing them well and stashing them in the cupboard. Buying lesser boots would have cost me double over the same period. Reeceknight
I'm still using Hoggs of fife and love them for half the price, although I have seen a pair of barbours I like.
Dunkield
I use armour all protectant, keeps rubber boots like new. This. My Chameaus are 15 years old if they are a day, having said that "they don't make like they used to" don't you know...
Marc Z
Their quality has dropped massively, that's objective. I've had mine about 7 years, now feature 2 broken zips and 1 leaky seal, but I'll still be wearing them for beating. I remember them coming with some kind of spray can from chemeau for maintenance, obviously don't supply that anymore?
Dunkield
I was told by one of their representatives at a game fair that spray wasn't all that and used to gum up, in fact it was him who recommended Armor All

Chris Bb
This is starting to sound like the Magnum Hi-Tec thread. As well as an old ever lasting pair of those I also have a pair of similar vintage Le Shameaus which appear to be going on forever. I must have bought a load of shoes in those days! I can't speak for these two brands but have to agree that other well known modern brands do not have the lasting power of their earlier offerings. And I pint blank refuse to pay £100 or more for any pair of shoes/boots, perhaps that's where I'm going wrong.
Dunkield
Which particular product? Of course that made me look at their site, only to find they make loads of similar products... None of them look identical to the bottle I have but this must be it in different packaging. http://www.armorall.eu/uk/products/item/id/155/protectant-semi-matt-finish

They have them for everything else, maybe we could have a "show us your old Le Chameau's" thread I have seen multiple pairs of the new ones literally fall apart in under a year, I won't be buying any, I have a pair of Seeland's in a box in loft waiting for the day my Cheameau's finally kark it. Others mentioned the tyre protector, but that sounded a little too gloss and I don't want my boots looking varnished like Elton John's in Tommy...
