you are never going to get flocks of pigeons feeding under oak trees....what you will get is some steady shooting sitting in the hedgelines, if you are seeing 5-15 birds under a oak then you are doing well ...set your deeks up away from the feeding area not too far away as this will attract other passing trade.....i dont experience big bags under oaks but i will get some steady shooting most of the day......i think a flapper would be better than a magnet to mix in with the deeks.........

you won't very often see big numbers under oaks as it takes so little time for them to fill their crops they come pick up a dozen or so acorns and go. By far the best days I have enjoyed are when half a dozen or so of us cover as much ground as possible to keep the pigeons on the move.

Been sat under a oak tree today for 4 hrs windy as hell birds coming in from very high turning at the last minute into the top of the tree ,pattern changed several times they still did not want to play ball didn't help that fields at each side of the tree were rape,

had one shot needless to say a branch nearly hit me on the bonce gave it up as a bad job,

Still better than watching jk all day :). High birds high wind high speed :(

Go get them. They are feeding more in my area on beech mast.

I shot a few on sat afternoon stuffed full of beech mast.

Always remember its not all about big bags. Some times it's

about getting some sport and testing your field craft.

Good luck.

I totally agree with you

I used to sit in a hedge with an airgun waiting to shoot pigeons when I was a kid with no decoys but then I had all the time and patience in the world.

I shot four pigeons whilst having a walk around a couple of weeks ago and all of them were full of acorns,if I was going to shoot them now it would be with a 12 g with a few deeks in the open near a tree I have seen them feeding and tuck myself in somewhere. This time of year I would be there before first light, before they have had their breakfast and give it a go for a hour or two if they keep coming but I doubt it
