Hodmedod.one
Happy New Year everyone To avoid us all groaning on a regular basis and saying "Oh God, not that topic again" let's get as many of the old chestnut questions into one thread as early in the year as possible. I will open with..... Funds are tight and I can only afford one Rifle. I need it to shoot everything from Gnats off my Cats *** as it walks around the lounge to African Bull Elephants at ranges up to 5 kilometres. I also have to pop off the odd Puma/Leopard/Tiger/Lion (delete which not applicable) as they regularly visit my back garden. Should I go for.. BSA Meteor with a bic biro spring upgrade .177 FAC Ruger 10/22 .17HMR Catapult with heavy duty knicker elastic and mince pies for ammo. This is an important topic, so none of the usual flippant/sarcastic remarks please. Sensible replies only. Please feel free to add your own questions that need to be answered. Perhaps if we get enough the mods will pin the thread up to provide instant access to a veritable wealth of knowledge.
Bradders
I would chose the catapult and mince pie, so if the impact of the pie does not kill then eating it probably will....... A happy and prosperous new year to one and all......

Graham M
Just plump for a nice 700 Nitro Express S/S rifle. Should be OK for just about anything except deer…….can’t get the required velocities with it, (2,200fps) so it isn’t powerful enough for deer…….apparently. G.M. Mungler
I can flick bogeys quite far and with some accuracy. Obviously the sticky ones are only good for a bit of practice and target bogey flicking. For hunting I like to use dried bogeys (home loaded) which I have stuck under my desk at work. pin
Yes this is all fine, but if you are under 17 is it ok to let your trebuchet projectiles leave your property? Also I have an aa s410 which I regularly take bunnies out to 90 yards (12ft/lb) but my mate says his is ok for deer, can I have plans for increasing my rifle power with butane/helium please? Cheers Oh, and plans for a pigeon magnet, and which wellies are best? Also, how do I get land to shoot over?
digger
if i buy a .700 can i fire it in my back garden and is it safe to use on roosting pigeons ? i once shot a tick off a fox with it at seven miles ( open sights natch ) but want to know if its ok to plink at cans. one last question, how do i get farmers to knock on my door and beg for me to shoot on their land ( i prefer them to pay me for this )
Mungler
I have been thinking of getting a variation to my certificate for 10 shot 10 finger semi auto bogey flicking (both hands). Will I have to store my bogeys securely (perhaps under the base of a locked drawer of my desk) and seperately from my hands (which i currently store down the front of my trousers (when no one is looking). tosspot
catapult will be fine for me but what choke should i use?

Could have done with one of these at The Fenns I think on that Battue, does it come in Realtree finish though. Assuming it is a 3" digit magnum then it would be of use on Duck and Geese with those Non-Toxic bogey's that cost abit more than the normal ones. Surely the ordinary 3 shot capacity can be exceeded if using 2.5" bogeys, meaning that at a squeeze you can get a fourth one on the hand. Remember wearing safety goggles at all time will avoid eye injury and using 28gram bogey load will lessen recoil on your wrist as well as adhereing to local council nose regulations. See what happens when suffolk meets essex Personally I would have the BSA Meteor with the spring upgrade.

Kent meets Essex you mean How is it on that little island, I reckon the trebuchet could reach from here, but I need to check the backstop is safe, can you open the window and check if behind you is clear. digger
it was open sights and i paced it out as my mate also shot at the same tick with his gat gun.we then drove to the site of impact in our bmw off roader ( ok,i lied about that bit ) and there was the tick, shot cleanly through the ear.did i mention the bullet richoted and took out 101 pigeons,57 crows ( they are black like rooks but i call them crows as i dont know any better ) and a pigeon that looked like a woodie,is it ok to shoot stock doves ? after that we netted partridges, goaded some badgers, fought with some dogs and then retired to the pub to beat poles and harrass lithuanians.then we ? A happy and prosperous new year to one and all...... The wifes knicker elastic and her homemade mince pies would drop a Rhino at 500 yds might be a bit overpowered for garden use though

naddan28
Personally although its a bit old I prefer my 1940's panzerfaust, its good in the garden for cans but the problem is even with headshots it just wont seem to stop the pesky rabbits! Any one got anytips? The rabbits just seem to run off and laugh and me while im busy reloading. I would take it down the farm but i lost my permission when aiming at a sparrow which unfortunately flew away as i shot leaving the tractor for a backstop, my farmer was not very happy
