Mentalmac
Morning chaps, Shot plenty of pigeons with a borrowed Lanber and a borrowed Baikal since getting my licence - however after splashing all my cash on my HMR and FAC airguns, I didn't have enough for a shotgun too :-(. However after a few months I managed to get myself a Baikal of my own, nothing special - but a good solid O/U with some signs of use but all round very tight and clean. So last light on saturday I popped out, albeit knowing I would only have around 30 mins before dark. A few mins in, a pigeon on it's flight line came flying over the tree tops coming in to roost and I was in the right place, right time and as I stood up and broke cover he decided to break right which presented me a perfect shot and I downed him with 1 barrel. Put him in my pocket and carried on. I then proceeded up the river bed a little when I clocked a cock bird limping about. I assume that this is due to the game shoot which happens a few fields along from here this large boy seemed to take a fair whack but made it away. As I approached he lifted and was trying to get airbourne however I took him as to end any pain. (I see plenty of pheasant but I don't shoot them as I leave them for the guys who pay good money to shoot them) In the spirit of this being my first with my new gun, I decided to take more time than usual with this pigeon, rather than just crown them on site which I do when I have half a dozen and more. so will enjoy this one roasted. The cock bird had a fair amount of torn skin and wing was pretty damaged (soft tissue damage) so just peeled and took the meat.

Mentalmac
Looks good mate well done. Some meat on the cock bird! Cheers :-). yea, he wouldn't fit in my pocket that was for sure! A good weight to him. Shame his skin was torn or else I would have turned him into a good sunday roast.

turbo33
A good job done on spotting the pricked the pheasant, (that might make the anti rifle shooters put a sock in it!) and both birds expertly prepped

Mentalmac
Cheers guys :-). Just working out a good way to cook it now :-). Feathers come off a dream with a pigeon, so the only hard part is getting the guts out of a small bird :-)

Mentalmac
good job on the shooting and a very very good job on the plucking, you must be an old turkey plucker like me,atb simon haha yes - I'm a pretty good plucker. For me it's about speed, if I keep a consistent speed whilst plucking them I don't get any tears. If I slow down or speed up it all goes wrong. It was beautiful - worth every minute haha. Mmm pigeon samosa sounds nice! I like putting a swig of sherry whilst roasting a pigeon as well. Adds a new dimension to it
