The Mighty Prawn Posted November 29, 2013 Report Share Posted November 29, 2013 I've got a 94 2.8 lwb which got for £800 from the estate of a farmer I used to shoot for who passed away, promised myself if anything broke I'd scrap it as have has bad experiences chucking money at vehicles that should be shot in the paddock - four years on and other than one tyre and basic maintenence it's still going strong! You do need an oil well though as it is a thirsty girl - £10 of diesel will get you about thirty miles! Plus note, the pajero owners club forum can tell you how to fix anything! Absolutely amazing off road and we did used to take it to some very muddy steep areas. It cost a grand so wasn't expensive. Draw backs; Very thirsty High insurance as it was an import. MOTORWAYS 60 MPH==== 32 33 MPG. THERE ARE VERY FEW 4X4s THAT WILL GIVE YOU GOOD MPG. ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE HAD WAS AN OLD DISCO 300 SERIES. IT DID 33 34 MPG OFF ROAD AND CLOSE TO 40 MPG ON MOTORWAYS AT 60 MPH. IT WAS A ONE OFF I HAVE HAD A FEW DISCOS SINCE AND THEY HAVEN`T COME CLOSE TO THAT SORT OF MPG. I will second that. I have a 98 LWB 2.8 td it dose 25 local and 32 mpg on a run. With Transmission lock and rear diff lock it`s never got stuck. And has pulled loads of other 4 x 4 s out of the merde. B/S www.Mitziheads.co.uk He comes to you and fits the parts outside your house. He came to me and fitted a new injector pump seal. To my 98 2.8 td Flared arch model Shogun. Fitted new heater plugs i supplied. And a new rocker box gasket I supplied. And he charged me £180. He dose new heads for the 2.5 and the 2.8 for £350. Water pumps £24. Timing chain £32. My folks had had Shoguns for years and none have ever missed a beat and they have been used off road, towing caravans anround the UK and europe, towing horse boxes, around the shoot, motorway miles, local drives ! All have been deisels and of average MPG for a LWB 4x4 and not used much oil at all. And a farmer whos land I shoot over is on his second without problem. It is in daily service as my mothers car in Africa and at least half of those miles have been off road. Costs: well multiple sets tyre and of shocks ( 1-2 sets per year- told you it was used off road a lot), a prop shaft and after my sister drove it home with it over heating from a burst water pipe 2 yearsa ago a new head. Has been a very reliable car and always got us home. Performed great off road. Were very impressed so got a 2000 a 2.8 auto and had to get rid of it after a year due to the number of repairs. Get a good one and your in luck, a poor one and you will sink all your money into it. Don't rule out the 3 litre v6, smoother engine, not as many head and overheating andxrelability of Japanese petrol engines. Fuel consumption about the same on both. The shoguns are decent trucks but are getting on now, personally the 2.5 isn't a bad engine I've had them in L200's for a fair few years now and looked after they are fine but not the most economical. activeviii Posted December 2, 2013 Report Share Posted December 2, 2013 Pajero works, never got stuck in one. best ws the 2.8 superselect feildmaster. it got me everywhere. they are cheap to insure as a second car. Dave Brewer from 4x4 specialist insurance will give a very good price. £134 full comp with green laning and off roading meets covered. under 6000 miles a year. change the oil every 6 months, things are big, easy to get to and cheap. Milner offroad use to be £35 for a full service kit. do this once a year and order the oil and filter at the same time to change in 6 months. grease the nipples at the same time. only reason i sold and went to a mitz outlander was the mpg. I would be more that happy to change oil every 6months, and am not worried about them being heavy of fuel as I am not going to be travelling 100's of miles in it. Yep heavy on fuel but I never purchased it as a family run around which it is at the present time. Put a full cage on top plenty of room in the back, and the family loves it. Sold countless pajeros and never had one with a major fault. Keep it regularly serviced and it will look after you. My father has been a mechanic for over 30 years, and he has had mitsubishis for the last 20 years. In our experience anyone who has had problems with them has either bought an abused piece of **** or not maintained them correctly. Shop around for a good one. Axeman1984 Posted December 3, 2013 Report Share Posted December 3, 2013 I've got a swb 2.8, 20 years old and still going strong, can't fault the old beast, no engine management lights or limp home mode, it either goes or it don't, I've got a set of BFG mud terrains on and it will go anywhere, they also have a full time 4 wheel drive mode which is nice in the snow and icy mornings, yes there thirsty but if your looking for fuel economy a 4x4 is not the right motor is it...
