Mr Majyk
anyone know of a good quality water proofing spray? I've got an old mili jacket which i always wear when out on a shoot because of its lovely deep pockets! only problem being its not as waterproof as id like, especially with the rain we've been having lately someone recommended i get a waterproofing spray and a quick google showed up quite a few saying they were the cats pyjamas but i just thought id ask on here, anyone ever used one before that they'd be happy to recommend??? islandgun
I use Nikwax tent & gear solarproof does the job on my jackets, dont think its breathable type but its so windy up here i dont have a problem
PhilR
My previously waterproof Musto Keepers coat let water in whilst I was out shooting the other week. Received wisdom is to wash it in Nikwax Tech Wash to clean it and then TX Direct Wash In to waterproof it afterwards. Need to clean the washing machine first to get rid of traces of detergent. I took the opportunity to wash and reproof all my coats. I have yet to wear them in the rain but reports from others is that it works. The products are available in spray format too. welshwarrior
I used Tenttex or the nikwax stuffin post 2 on my old windproof smock worked really well.
Cockermax
+1 for the Nikwax Tech Wash & TX Direct been using it for years on a variety of coats. Once done you can use the tech wash every few months to rejuvinate the waterproofness and then just reproof it every 12 months or so. JBS
I used the two part wash and rep roofer nikwax on my seeland thornhill and it leaks worse than before :( not sure if I did something wrong but sure I followed the instructions to the letter? Still have loads left so I might try again and maybe do it by hand this time
rtaylor
I've not used Nikwax on anything other than my Paramo jacket. However thats the only thing keeping it waterproof so it has to be doing something right.

SSS
This is something I can personally help you with Look up smart-tex on YouTube and feel free to contact me How does this stuff stand up to actually being used in the field? I've seen and bought stuff that works well when you pour water over it, but as soon as you touch it, be it with your hands, or with bushes, hedgerows and branches, the water repellency just gives up. All the best
hoggysreels
Ive used the Nikwax, works great for the first, 2/3 times. Once the seams of the garment has moved a number of times, ingress returns gradually. Its a damage limitation job. I went over to tweed with an inner waterproof layer .. after one season as yet, still waterproof. Mr Majyk
Well I've found a Jack pike waterproofing spray, which of course looks nice and easy, but i doubt it'll really stand the test of time. don't mind redoing it every so often but don't wanna be doing it other blooming day. this thompsons water seal sounds good? if it actually penetrates the fabric logic says its going to last longer? and it cheap, cheap is always good. Chris Bb
Thompsons water seal from any diy store just spray it on with a rose sprayer and hang it up to dry. HB. I don't know about jackets but this stuff certainly gives worn out Land Rover canvasses a new lease of life. Mind you, it's like trying to paint blotting paper! Catweazle
The old style Thomsons water seal was OK for waterproofing cotton / canvas, but the new style isn't.
