Alternative puppy food

I'm looking for an alternative puppy food for my 10month old lab.

I've been feeding her on Burgess Supadog Puppy as advised by the breeder. Problem is I have to order bags of this online so delivery can be dodgy at times and they don't sell it in the local Pets at Home.

So could somebody please recommend me some other brands?

I really would not be worried about giving it puppy food at that age , get it onto a proper adult food and it will be fine, my Lab has been on adult since he was 7 months.

The puppy "tag" is mostly for the owners benefit !,

I use Skinners and have been happy with the results, but each dog is different .

me neither

I was having problems with my dogs digestive system,, runny poo, he is 6mnths old now i was advised to get him onto adult food ,

and has been on skinners hypoallergenic adult food for nearly a month now.

and he is firming up nicely .

personally I don't think a dog of that age should still be on puppy food, I don't personally choose to use "puppy complete food" either (though I have tested them in the past) as I want to know exactly what is in there at this important stage, rather than trust a manufacturer and his main interest which is in profit margins not the health of the pup I am investing a lot of time and energy into. Thus i feed home cooked mixes

Don't even think about a maintenance feed at that age, I've got mine on the 23% working crunch as it's between puppy food and maintenance. Doing well on it at 7 months with the bonus I can keep her mum on it as well

Having worked in the petfood industry for 23 years I like to think I may know a little about pet nutrition , I have had quite a bit of training on it over the years .

A lower protein food will have no negative effect on a puppy of that age which is one of the larger breeds , especially if it is doing little in the way of work , it could be argued that a high protein diet will cause more issues , especially if the food has a higher amount of calcium .

Lower protein can have a positive effect on adolescent pups both in its behavior and later life joint problems etc.

hi fenboy

have you ever used linseed/flax oil as a supplement in your dogs meals? I have been told a teaspoon of this has good effect on dogs?

for coat condition and also contains natural anti-inflammatory properties amongst others ?

I feed mine on a mix of dry and raw at the moment, they have dr johns gold in the morning and raw meat at night and they thrive on it. They never have bad poo, they don't make smells and I think it's certainly good for their health. Too many additives in processed food. If you have a dog with a dodgy digestion then raw feed is ideal for them

No I cannot say that I have , my older dog does get a little cod liver oil from time to time and they both on occasions have a little salmon oil.

:good: as above, as soon as my dogs are 6 month old they go on adult food

Try whole oily fish instead of such supplements, blast frozen sardine etc raw with guts or salmon / trout heads from the kitchen.

I wouldn't advise anyone to feed raw salmon unless they know what there doing that there is a possible cause of a parasite/bugs in dogs with potential Leathal consquences
