foosa
How often to you see others lamping on neighbouring or close by land to yours when out yourself? It used to be very rare, non existent even down here, but just recently I'm seeing more and more out on nearby permissions. The other night someone must have spotted my light and I ended up feeling like I was being lamped!
Guest rimotu66
That must be worrying, I think I would pack up and go home as there will likely be a gun of some sort at the other end of that lamp.
Scully
See it quite often at times. So long as they stick to their own land it doesn't bother us.
sonicdmb
Seen it a few times mostly another lad I know who's permission over laps some of mine, usually just meet up and tell him what I planning and we sort it between us. Sometimes it gets the foxes moving and ends up a better night for both. On other nights its been poachers with long dogs, I tend to stay out of sight but getting fairly close and shouting "what the **** do you think your doing" or similar is very entertaining. especially if they can't see you. foosa
No one else shoots on my permissions and thankfully I don't get other lampers on the same land, I see people on land close by and far away, it was last Wednesday I think, some one shining about half mile away let me know they were there,so I shone my pocket torch back, I then had them trying to find me in the spot light for bout 5 min till they got bored! I hadn't considered the light could be attached to a gun!! I would like to think they weren't waving a loaded gun about the countryside. Dougy
Some year's back whilst lamping on a permission we noticed someone lamping over the hedge from a landrover 90. It was a green lane and it was obvious there intentions were not above board, shots had been fired from the 90 into my permission, and as by magic the moderator had somehow removed itself ftom my rifle, a mate of mine gave them a bit of additional light from the light force 170 and I fired a shot into the ground a few yards in front of us and not quite in there direction they must have been around 300 yards off, but seconds after I reckon they must have been a couple of miles off. It was my 30.06 too. Lol
Archie-fox
Just one other guy lamps my permission, he doesn't have permission but does it anyway... I've seen him myself lamping it from the road and driving off again...
clakk
some _______------lamps towards the road when im driving home from work seen the gentlemans appendage 3 or 4 times now down hill towards the main lane from the a38 towards swadlincote in south derbyshire .if he,s on here maybe he,d like to have a think about the consequences of firing towards a busy road across open fields when so many cars are travelling as theres no backstop for about 2 miles apart from two bungalows and a farmhouse
arjimlad
Last time I went out I stopped the car at fields where I shoot, and could see a proper lamping lamp being shone about in one of the fields - where the cattle were lying down. My farmer doesn't let anyone at all shoot or disturb fields which have livestock in. The lampers moved off so I moved my car then approached on foot minus the gun minus the lamp. I could see it was a chap and about four kids under 10. He had a greyhound type dog and was lamping for rabbits for the dog to chase. I called the farmer. The lamper and his little posse moved up to where I was standing and I put my torch on. I politely explained that they probably shouldn't be there and that I shot rabbits on these fields. The kids were charming, well spoken and polite and the lamper agreed to move on. I walked with him but kept a torch on and said I would accompany them off the land. This seemed to irritate him and he became aggressive towards me, swearing and threatening to hit me. I backed off. I didn't want him to get violent in front of the children which seemed to be his approach. I walked away and watched them leave the land. The farmer arrived, I told him what had gone on, and the farmer drove up and caught up with the lamper. I was a bit disappointed when the farmer told me that after saying that he would shoot the dog if it was allowed to stray amongst the cattle again, he had also told the chap that he could lamp for rabbits with his dog in fields where there was no livestock, in future, especially as the farmer knew that the chap had threatened to hit me. Very disappointing indeed and presumably a bit frightening. Suggest you seek legal advice
Brad93
I would tell that farmer that he can find someone else to sort out his rabbits from now on then because you don't want to be dealing with people like that at night with a firearm. Well I shouldn't want that permission personally, got to say its often a case of someone farming rabbits for sport rather than making a good impact on the numbers though that creates these free for all situations. To allow someone back who has just been poaching though is a bit strange
Grandalf
Pests are pests. If a farmer sees two rabbits or pigeons on his crops he's infested with them. Anyone shooting them is welcome. I've had this problem several times over the years. It's a pain in the butt.

I may stick to daylight hours, and he has other less populated parts where I have yet to see another soul. The occasional nighttime foray will be OK but it was not very encouraging ! Very disappointing indeed and presumably a bit frightening. Suggest you seek legal advice Not really, he was a fatty and had 4 kids to look after. I would have outrun him quite easily.
