Sean Richo
Ok off road but you need decent tyres back silencer is a bit low so be carefull you don't rip it off. I have got an x trail and really pleased with it.
Konnie
had a 53 plate one now in shed head gasket or oil cooler gone done 93k good with sunroof fully back and passenger seat forward good rifle turret, needs tyres for off road ok for flat land lacks ground clearance but will do the normal stuff stubble etc look on auto trader if your after older one not many make it past 115k
mark1206
got a 52 plate with 137000 on the clock still drives perfect .. the 2.2 diesel engine is a good strong engine that should go on forever. will do enough off road for general shooting, but you must remember its not a full 4x4 as it has no low range or diff lock.. mossberg-operator
Thx guys! My dilemma is between a Discovery or X-Trail or else? Not a handy-mandy guy... Got couple of grand to spend on it.
39TDS
Got a 03 2.2 xtrail, done about 700 miles since I bought it and so far the repairs are costing more than a pound a mile. I like the car but it breaks every week for one reason or another. Fuel economy is good, not just because it spends most of its time being mended. Off road is very good, better than I was expecting. Nice enough to drive and quite nippy. What car should you buy? A Terrano in my opinion.
Beardo
happy with mine, had it two years now 54 plate 2.2 turbo diesel. the yokohama geolander go012 tyres have made a big difference off road and still great mpg onroad
wymberley
good with sunroof fully back and passenger seat forward good rifle turret, needs tyres for off road ok for flat land lacks ground clearance but will do the normal stuff stubble etc look on auto trader if your after older one not many make it past 115k the yokohama geolander go012 tyres have made a big difference off road and still great mpg onroad +1 to both of the above. Real mud pluggin', it'll have to be the Discovery but for general off road/shooting these take some beating.
everycal
Anyone got experience of the 2 litre petrol one? Considering one now. Know its rubbish on fuel but apart from that what else should I look for? Its a 52 plate one. Thanks
mickh
I have the two litre petrol on a 03 plate and apart from general servicing in the eight years of ownership all I've had to do to it was a rear wheel bearing. As for fuel consumption it's quite acceptable at around 25-30 mpg around th doors (that's me driving not the wife). I did manage to do Devon Coast(west bay ) to Newcastle on one tank of fuel. The only reason I have kept it this long is i would only be replacing it for another. I cannot recommend them enough. Sean Richo
I know loads of x trails that have past 115k. My friend uses one for driver training (towing lessons) and it has done 145000 miles with no problems but he does do two oil changes a year the ones that break have not been looked after properly in my opinion. I think they are a really good car just need to get one that's not been abused.
Andra
Have had a 54 plate 2 litre petrol for 6 years now and still have it. I got it at 27k miles and is now at around 89k I have given it a good annual service each year and it has been absolutley brilliant I have NOT spent one penny on anything other than servicing, MOT, and tyres and a battery after three years of buying the car. Thumbs up from me big time 100% reliable!!!! I dont find the fuel consumtion that bad to be honest but I do not analyse it too much be fair. I would buy another........ Best time with this vehicle was when we woke up to about 3 or 4 feet of snow at lodges on loch lomond the lodges were situated in a bit of a dip it started first time and in 4x4 we blasted out of there and away whilst many cars were not starting due to the cold and some could just not get out due to the uphill negotiation to get of of the dip...... No bother to the x trail. Edited March 24, 2014 by Andra

everycal
Glad to hear it as I brought one last night. The 2.0 litre petrol. 52 reg but only got 55K on the clock and been very well looked after. Can't wait to get it out and see if its as good as I think it is! Andra, and others who have them what tyres were you running on it?
bullet1747
to be fair all 4 x4 are good ,they all have bad points it just depends if you drop on Monday model or a Friday afternoon model
Mentalmac
All depends on who owned it... And if they maintained it properly. Some cars can be a used for years and stil carry on but by the sounds of it X-Trails are quite fussy. The landowner I shoot for has one as a company car and its always breaking down and going wrong. (She uses It to tow all the time because of her job). How about a grand vitara or terrano?
Beardo
I can highly recommend the Yokohama Geolander G012 tyres, a big improvement off-road on the standard road tyres and negligible difference in road noise or fuel consumption
