Westward
How did you get grease in the action? I simply use white spirit to clean and flush the action and when dry a few drops of light oil on pivots and contact points. Save the grease for where it's needed on wear points like trunnions or forend knuckles but it has no place inside the action. Personally I avoid WD40 because it leaves a sticky residue which can cause problems with Beretta actions and some of the other more modern designs that have shrouded cocking rods and interceptor sears. figgy
Carb cleaner will degrease and clean, just oil as soon as dry as it will remove all traces of lubricant. Figgy
tomblincoe
napier degreaser works really well on the trigger group and gas piston for me.

theshootist
Another vote for carb cleaner. I also have a tin of "action blaster" that does what it says on the tin.

figgy
5ltr of pure acetone, how much grease and oil are you planning on cleaning. Love the smell, can always give your wife some for her nail varnish remover. Figgy
craigpigeonshooter
I used acetone in the end and it worked a treat. Washed a lot of grime and greasy residue off and quite a lot of metal fragments.

LeadWasp
IPA (isopropyl alcohol) works a treat (get it from RS or Rapid Electronics). Just cleaned a semi with it and it's running on rails now!
Chris Bb
Now there's a name from the past, can you still get it ? Pretty sure you can. And it still stinks! Lidl occasionally do a spray can of engine cleaner, it's water soluble, doesn't smell, doesn't damage tarmac driveways & works a treat. Graham M
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gunk-6868-Ultra-Engine-Degreaser/dp/B006HFM8MA Not as good as acetone though, although it won't remove the colour from the aluminium trigger guard on your air rifle.
