station
Without stating the obvious name of said site. Has anyone else just sat there and thought - is there anything you cannot buy off of there? I have a little project on at the moment - making a small barrel shroud for my nephew's air rifle. I needed a 15.5mm twist drill so was going to have a look in the local DIY store and forgot. Got home and thought internet - got one for £3 delivered ! Then sat there thinking that I need to go to local engineers to get some 25mm diameter ally bar and trying to work out when I would have the time and opportunity. You've probably guessed the next bit - Typed 25mm aluminium bar into the search and voila - up came loads of options. Got a piece of 25mm x 300mm long for £7 delivered (possibly expensive?) so all sorted. Hopefully all here for this weekend and then off to use mates lathe to sort the 200mm shroud. What's the quirkiest things others have found - either due to struggling locally to obtain or just laziness? Cheers.

aris
I don't even bother trying local shops any more. I find exactly what I need, at a great price, and it falls though my postbox the next day. Some of the stuff you would never even find in a local shop - I would be wasting my time and petrol looking. fortune
Drive belt for lawnmower. £2.50 tinternet next day delivered to door. Same make of belt £15 from local dealer and I would have had to drive 10 mile round trip to get it. I know that they have overheads but that is TOO MUCH. Shame isn't it. Thunderbird
Without stating the obvious name of said site. You can actually call it ebay without the sky falling in. It's like a load of poncy actors who don't want to say Macbeth. I don't even bother trying local shops any more. I find exactly what I need, at a great price, and it falls though my postbox the next day. Some of the stuff you would never even find in a local shop - I would be wasting my time and petrol looking. Sad in a way but very true.
Hamster
It's not only convenient and cheap but also some things are so random and rare you simply wouldn't know where to start looking. Last year I tried to get the straps on a Tag watch converted to butterfly deployment style but the factory option was several hundred pounds, the man at the market who does our batteries couldn't help so I went on ebay and within minutes found and bought one for a couple of quid, it arrived a few days later and I installed it myself, the watch looks and feels twice as good as before. aris
I needed to fix some stitching on a leather bag. Where on earth would I find a short length of the right colour leather stitching thread and the special needle required to make the repair? The famous online auction shop of course - bought it as a kit for a couple of pounds. In my postbox a few days later. I know what you mean - I always try and help local merchants like for fresh produce, meat and also for more valuable purchases. It seems the oddball stuff is what you pay through the nose for at local level. ATB

HDAV
Without stating the obvious name of said site. Has anyone else just sat there and thought - is there anything you cannot buy off of there? A few things you can't buy according to their policy.... Guns Sex Unwashed clothes I find it overpriced on alot of stuff but on some specialist gear that high st stores don't stick it can be good (Internet in general) although the quality of some stuff especially that shipped from outside the EU can be rather suspect! Lord Geordie
Just a shame they don't have cheap shotgun reloading gear I am tired of sites pandering to the anti gun liberal groups, and removing certain catagories! And that American policy on shipping of goods is a farce! I couldn't even buy a tin of .22 lead balls for fear the feds would send the seller to guantanamo for supplying terrorists! But multimillion dollar corps can send enough chemicals to level half of washington to middle east countries? I think the USA need to take a good hard look at their shipping laws and realise what a half baked crock of excrement it really is Where am I? Oh that's right! Yes, I once found parts for a 1970s folding caravan on Ebay. Parts they still make "be it for a different application though" and managed to fix the van. Nowhere else in the UK stocked the parts! And to be able to build home cooked NV and hunting flashlights is cool.

welshwizard
Use to spend a lot of time at gamefairs looking for gear I wanted then started to compare the "offers" prices with the bay and found it cheaper than buying from a trader even with postage .
