Gun fit

Recommended Posts

Hi just hoping if someone could help

I have a beretta tecknys that i shoot mainly sporting it seems a bit flat as i can only just see the bead on end of barrel.

I have the shims set to highest setting i didnt know if a comb raiser would help

Cheers

I don't know what you're trying to achieve. I wouldn't want to be seeing any more than the bead on the barrel, really.

As Gordon R states you dont want to be able to see the rib.If you can see the bead the thats right.Try bringing the gun to mount with your eyes shut, you should be seeing the same bead position everytime(bead only no rib).Try the old trick of placing a plastic clothes peg mid barrel, your bead should be central.

Yes, stick a comb raiser on it or build it up with a bit of cardboard taped on until you get a comb raiser.

As JayDT10 says, most of the best sporting shots like to see a bit of rib, Lots or them shoot a sporter with a trap stock because the sporter stock combs are too low...

I had a400 and that was set up so the mid bead was lower than top and i shot well like this

With new gun it seems like I'm loosing sight of clay by the barrel

And i didn't really want a comb raiser as they cover up a real nice wood

Thats exactly what happens with a comb thats too low, then you end up lifting your head off the stock (without realising your doing it) to see the clay. If you have nice wood on your stock, the other option is to get an adjustable comb fitted, £200-£250, loads of good gunsmiths that can do this for you.

Go and see a stock fitter or a decent shooting Instructor, it could be something like poor gun mounting. A friend was telling me that his gun stock had 'altered' during the summer months. He had the gun fitted some 25 years ago and had shot very well with it. He went on to explain that his shooting had suffered towards the end of the previous game season. I got him to mount the gun for me. The first thing that I saw was that he had started to drop his head to the stock, instead of bringing the stock to cheek and shoulder. I sent him away to practice gun mounting in front of a mirror, keeping his head still. The result his gun has suprisingly 'altered' back again and all is now well.
