stuy
Just had another drive around my permission, peas in flower and still no woodpigeon drove around alot of land aprox 23,,000 acres!. And still seeing very little in the way of pigeon , hardly any birds flighting very strange indeed, thats the last 2 late afternoon drive abouts and nothing. All the crops look very forward indeed, but its just the lack of birds in general in such a large area thats got me stumped! , I know they have a lot of pigeon in Norfolk at the moment spoke to someone who was shooting the sandringham estate on sugar beet and 150 plus ,
motty
There are plenty around where I am. I have three good looking situations at the moment, although I don't have permission on one of them yet. Pigeons feeding on cattle feed, peas and set aside here. Stu, I bet you'll be inundated at harvest time. Edited June 6, 2014 by motty
Penelope
Dad and a friend of ours were out today on our shoot. Shooting over a large spring rape field from two hides, Dad had 27 and our friend had 62. The pea field next door that I had 66 off of on Bank Holiday Monday was swarming with them again. Put off by the sprayer and dropping in behind it. Shame that I have nowhere to take them, as the place that I take them are not taking pigeons until harvest, otherwise I'd be there for look on Sunday. aga man
Very much the same here Stuy last year was bad and this year so far is proving no better. like you i have access to many thousands of acres over 30-40 mile radius and a wide variety of arable crops. My last half decent bag of pigeons was Easter sunday on some drillings 30 odd and i haven't seen a good situation since. Our peas are also in flower and have not really been touched since they were drilled. I'm hoping the ripening barley will produce soon and then the rape and barley stubbles. There is slight hope the Towns and many of our woods seem to be alive with the sound of cooing woodie's.
hanky
No pigeons in Cambridge area for months now - where have they all gone??? Never had it this bad, hope they appear soon hopefully on some laid barley if we get some good thunderstorms, otherwise have to keep on shooting rooks and jackdaws in the meantime. marsh man
Although Motty have a lot up north Norfolk, down here in the Yarmouth area which is 60 miles away things are quite. I have also got a lot of land to cover and being retired can pick the days to go and most weeks I have been getting a few but they are made up with small bags. I haven't seen any big numbers for weeks now and I am not that convinced we will see big numbers on the stubbles, we will shoot some pigeons but not as many as were had in the past. When we go in the woods we don't put that many out so where are they going to come from ?

Been watching some big woods also for birds to see them leaving etc.. but nowtI am sure it will come good , but still a bit daunting isn't it. rich1985
This last week few more appeared this way of the world, still short on numbers than other years but I think when the combine starts rolling the pigeons will be plenty full every where. Hope so any way!
