bisondan
Evening all. Was wondering if anyone on here used or has used any of the CENS range of customer made earplugs. I don't like wearing the traditional ear defenders as I find them uncomfortable, I currently use AcuLife Sonic II ear plugs but they aren't the most comfortable thing so I've been looking at and am seriously thinking of spending £600 on some CENS. I want to cut as much noise out as possible so I can concentrate better, especially for clays.
aris
I have the CENS passive - as they are moulded to your ears, they can't be any more comfortable. With CENS you can buy the passives (about 100 pounds fitted), and then if you fancy upgrading to digital, you just replace the passive filters with the digital ones. They just pop out - a 30 second DIY job.
alastair0903
I have the passive , it is only a matter of time before I have a moment when I think I need to go electric . I also intersted in this , but if truth be told it don't think I will settle untill I own some !!
welshwarrior
Yes wear them pretty much constantly in the week great comfortable and easy to use. Batteries last about 10 days, wax filters about 2 months but depends on how bogging your ears are.
jimmyb79
I have the proflex 2 ones. They are excellent if fitted properly- mine weren't done right the first time and I wear mine all day sometimes. Worth the money, particularly if you don't like over ear defenders. tx4cabbie
I have the cens hunters, they are superb, comfy, actually improve my hearing, and provide good aural protection. It's an amazing feeling to be walking through the tall grass and hear the crisp sound of stalks breaking under your boots, hear everything said in conversation without having to shout "whaaaat!?" , and hear pigeons clattering towards you before you see them over the hedge. Expensive, but brilliant.
LPJA
They come with me ever time I got out, if I forget them, I go back and get them! I really do rate them, may take a few sessions to get used to but overall a worth while investment.
Dominicrobed
Iv had a pair for about 2 years now. Love them and they even enhance your hearing ! I thought I spent loads on my gun and equipment so spending that much on saving my hearing was not a bad thing. My wife had her moulds taken a week ago so love them in our house. CENSdigital
If you would like to cut out noise at the moment you need to concentrate the most, then check out the ProFlex Competition model. This model features a program that mutes ambient sound amplification, giving you silience when you need it the most. You can then push the program button on the earpieces to go back to normal sound amplication for having a conversation etc. http://www.censdigital.com/comp.html

NickB65
Please remember that your east continue to grow through your life and a hearing aid will only last ten years max before the ears have changed shape - £400+ every ten years may be a tad steep compared to the cheaper models on offer. I was going to go down the CENS route and I mentioned this to one of our OT's who works with us and is a hearing specialist - it was her advice that if I did I would need to replace them every ten years...... I have a pair of these for pigeon hide shooting: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sportear-XP3-Ear-Plugs-Hearing-Protection-for-Shotgun-or-Rifle-Shooting-BLACK-/251087314306 which are great but block a lot of background noise but for clay days and driven game days when I need to be aware more of those around me then I use http://www.uttings.co.uk/p112717-deben-supreme-pro-by-msa-sordin-hearing-protectors-headband-so7100/#.U5dL6xY8Qkg Edited June 10, 2014 by NickB65
rimfire4969
Cens I believe are the at the moment the best out there, but with not a lot of competition for the digital model, I expect once another company produces a similar product prices will come down a lot. alastair0903
I'm fairly certain you would just be able to get new moulds for less than £99 . I will have to get upgraded this summer

I will have to get upgraded this summer The passive inserts can be bought for 9.50 each - so 9.50 x2 = 19 - 99 = 80 pounds.
elgreco
I have had to send my Cens proflex back for slight modifications, in fairness to Puretone they have been very helpful and hopefully I will be enjoying the full Cens experience very soon. Cheers Tom I had a problem with my first impressions taken too (by a 3rd party audiologist). They re-did the impressions and the new set were much better. The first time around I had my jaw closed when they took the impressions, second time around they put a little wedge in my mouth to keep my jaw a bit open. This affected the fit because the shape of your inner ear (or at least my ear) changes slightly when your jaw is closed. Been very happy with them since then and Puretone were very helpful. That is exactly what my thoughts were Iv spend god knows how much on my guns , carts , clays and decoy gear that £500 on saving my hearing is nothing. CENSdigital
Hi all, just to clarify that any CENS ProFlex product (passive or electronic) will need new silicone moulds replacing as your ears change. Based on having them done every 10 years this equates to less than £9 a year. You will not need to purchase the passive or electronic modules again. rimfire4969
They seem expensive, but put a price on your hearing. I have the digital ones and they are truly excellent! This is very true, but you can save your hearing with a £20 pair of plugs or defenders. You do not need to spend £400 plus.
