FOXHUNTER1
After speaking to a farmer the other evening asking if some fields were cut and him telling me YES and that he saw 2 foxes in the field the previous evening I phoned Grasshopper and arranged to see if we could get them..... On arrival at the fields , Jeff looked through his Archer and spotted 2 foxes straight away in the field. But a dogwalker and his 2 dogs appeared at the top of the field , he was a pensioner and had his torch with him flashing it about. Anyway we had to hold fire til he had passed all the while I was watching the fox through the Archer watching the dog walker. Unbelievably as soon as the dogwalker had gone the fox did exactly the same The bottom field was fresh cut grass so decided to sit put in the motor and watch with the NV... Jeff set away the Foxpro using various calls but nothing showed then after muting it and sitting for a few minutes a fox popped out of the hedge and sat only 15 yards from the motor 1 down.... Now I was on 999 lifetime total and had already said that I must shoot number 1000 so I was getting instruction from Jeff on how to use the Archer , light on in motor , talking etc when another fox came out of the hedge 50 yards away , Jeff said what should I do and I said "Just shoot it " so I eventually hit my lifetime target of 1000 but sadly never got to shoot the milestone fox but getting the fox was more important to me than shooting it.. I wanted a good photo of this memorable event but unfortunately even the camera didn't go to plan and for some reason the flash hasn't worked very well .. So thats a 1000 foxes since I started which is probably not a lot compared to the fox shooters down South who shoot 200 - 300 a year but up North its not a bad result as we dont have a high population of vulpines up here... ..
