OVER THE MOON

ok so I had an excellent trip out last week on the crows after searching a few fields and me and my shooting buddy decided to pop down to one of our other perms and see if any crows where about,,

I was also about to give my springer his first full day in the hide to see how he reacted, he has done the odd hour or two with me before but this was his first long spell sitting in the hide,

on arriving at the perm it was instant bad news because the field we could not shoot was full of crows and our fields where empty,

I decided to set up on the edge of the wood which would give me a better view of the fields,I set the hide up at sat Archie my springer in the hide, now archie has been doing well with his training and is now 15 months old, he works really well to the whistle and also retrieves his dummies and birds also, but I needed to see how he would cope in the field,

well all I can say is it was a very slow day and I had 12 crows in 5 hours, Archie sat with me patiently and did 12 retrieves

to say I,m OVER THE MOON with how he behaved and also how well he retrieved the crows is an understatement, please note that before I sent the dog out I made sure the crows where dead ,

anyway here is the picture of me and Archie,, guess who was the proudest lol ... he looks really pleased with himself

Glad it went well , he looks a handsome fella

I would advise against giving him every retrieve though as it may cause issues later on with running in , make him sit outside the hide while you walk out and pick one or two up yourself , that way he learns that not evrything is his

That has the potential of a rewarding partnership.

As others have said sometimes just sit him up and let him watch you doing the retrieves. In that way he will not get the impression that every shot means a bird to retrieve. That will encourage steadiness.

I look forward to reading more posts about your exploits together.
